New to the jeepers world
Hello,
My name is Kyle. I've had my 90' Jeep Cherokee pioneer for a few months now. It's a blast to drive, and does great for my everyday A to B use.
It's practically stock, save for the aftermarket stereo, and maybe the tow hitch; rated at 6,000 lbs I believe. Brand is Reese towpower.
I come from the Subaru world, but I am tired of driving fast, and going through turbo chargers lol. I bought the jeep before selling my Subie, and now that I sold it, I have more $$$ for other toys (bikes, ATVs, etc...) which brings me to my next question:
Would this jeep be good enough (safe enough) to tow a small trailer with a dirt bike and an ATV on it? or even a pop-up camper?
The suspension seems to be....worn out. Other than that, it only has 170k on the odometer. Runs like a champ. Auto trans. with that button for a "power" option behind the steering wheel.
I want to give it a small lift and tire upgrade eventually too.
Any suggestions/advice?
Thanks.
p.s. bring on the noobie taunts!

Plenty people tow with them, I personally don't because 1 no hitch(they like to get hung up on rocks) and 2 I feel a tow rig needs more power. At 3'' and 31s I feel under powered like a ****, going up long hills I have to downshift just to keep 80. I cant imagine pulling a trailer.

The only towing would be minor, as mentioned. And it would be to camp sites in the mountains and back, not going over 60mph.
I'm just curious if even that small amount of towing will be a nightmare with my current setup.
Yeah, for power, forget about it lol

Welcome. I think it would work fine for light towing. If you lift it and get bigger tires, you'll want to re-gear the axles to compensate for the bigger tires. And if you don't have a tranny cooler, get one.

Cool. Yeah the tires are priority number 1. It looks so disproportional with those skinny little things on there.
How easy is it to install a tranny cooler?

I used my previous XJ with a 3" lift & 31" tire setup to haul my motorcycle and ATV and it was fine. I wouldn't use it every weekend, but a few times a year wouldn't concern me one bit.
