Default New Jeep Owner - Papua New Guinea

Just recently purchased my first Jeep, a '99 Cherokee. Bought used from Japan. It should arrive in country in less than a week and be ready for pickup in the port city of Lae by the 21st of the month. Not many Jeeps here as PNG is Toyota country (Hiluxes and Land Cruisers utes/pickups primarily) with a fair number of Mitsubishis, Nissans and Fords.

In my work among some minority language groups here, having a good 4WD vehicle is a must. My Jeep will see everything from pothole filled, two-lane highways to minimally groomed, dirt/mud mountain roads with a potential river crossing and the occasional landslides. I already have getting ready for shipment from the States:[LIST][*]a 60" Hi Lift w/ mount and accessories[*]Rough Country front winch bumper[*]Smittybilt 12,000-lb winch and accessories[*]and an Optima 34/78 battery. These will all arrive shortly before Christmas.

I've ordered a Safari Snorkel from Australia. And I have the local auto shop building a custom cargo rack for the roof as the vehicle will often transport my family and a month or more of supplies per trip.

Once the Jeep is here, I will evaluate what kind of lift, locker and other mods I need to make it suitable for the conditions it will face.

I'll post pictures once it arrives and as the build slowly progresses.

When my family is Stateside (about 1 out of every four or five years), we reside on the other side of the Susquehanna in Lancaster (Manheim Township).

Wow! I grew up in York County. Small world to see other PAers. We have a few other members on this forum who live in York County as well.
