New Jeep Comanche Owner--Can Anyone tell me the rarity of my Jeep???
Hey guys hows it going. Just joined and will probably be on here alot. Just bought an '86 Comanche and loving it. will get into details in a bit.
I'm Angelo, live in SW PA, near Lancaster. Going to school here, UTI for Auto/ Diesel. And before some of you start jumping to conclusions, I'm not the usually UTI kid, I have restored 2 vehicles previously (both older chevys), and have been around cars all my life, lol.
Ok, now to the truck. Found it on craigslist for $1500. bought it for 1. Previously to me buying it, it did not run. Sat in a field for 10 years. i put new gas and some ether in it. Bam, runs immediately. I said "well that's good enough for me as far as reliability"
Its a 1986 AMC Jeep Comanche Custom. 2wd Longbed. 4 speed. Has 130,958 original miles. Body is 6/10. MECHANICALLY ITS 9.5/10!! doesnt have the slightest tick. Ive done in the past couple days:
-Plugs
-Cap and Rotor
-Waiting on special order $12 wires (???)
-Wheel Balance
-New lug nuts all round (old ones all broke when balanced wheels, threads were too rusted)
-Cheap Air Filter
-Oil Change w/ Filter
-Need a couple of select interior pieces
So yeah, there it is. Any question, just ask. Would love to know about this thing.

Welcome to the site. I'm guessing you have the 2.5L and 4 speed manual? Might wanna clarify since there were a few options for these. Oh and don't forget pictures!

Nice! I'm from York PA myself. Visit Lancaster often. I think if you look around our area you can answer your own question on the rarity of the Comanches. I hunted for one that wasn't completely rusted out for over 2 years before settling on a '99 Ranger. Well wouldn't ya know, the frame rotted out on that sucker. Now I'm deep into Cherokee land!

I'd love to, but using the truck for school for now. i've decided it would be fun to have a restored, fun little MJ, then when I'm done with school I'll swap it.

good morning guys. thanks.
i am painting the front bumper today. will post a pic when done
painting it flat black
also found a cowl cover at the junkyard, was purple, painted it black. does anyone know a good trick to get the wiper arms off. nobody i know has a puller. I was thinking some pb blaster and just prying it gently. the clip broke off, the two aluminum pins corroded and crumbled off. i need to remove the arms to install the cowl cover.
