New Guy in Washington State
Good morning Guys,
I just found this forum while doing a random search for technical information. I really like what I see, so far.
I am the proud owner of a 1991 Jeep Cherokee Sport. It has the 4.0 HO motor, AW4 Auto tranny and NP231 transfercase.
I started out with a 4.5" rusty's lift and 32" Pro Comp muds. Since then I have snagged the Dana 44 rear and skid plates from an 87' XJ that was a police rig so it had all of the OEM offroad goodies. I also acquired the factory rear tire carrier from an 89' XJ. I have installed JCR Off Road rock sliders, Off Road Fab front bumper and a Smittybuilt XRC 8000 winch. People can say waht they want about these winches. I will say it was inexpensive and it has saved my butt and the butts of fellow 4wheelers many times. It has never given me a lick of trouble. I've installed a self built cold air intake. I also had a 2.5" flowmaster exhaust installed. I've re-geared the axles to 4.56. Yeah, I know. I really need bigger tires now...lol. I realized after installing my front bumper and winch that I had a little nose down issue. So, searching around for something to level her out and came upon the Daystar kit which was a 1 and 3/4" front spacer and a 1" rear lift shackle. So, I've gained an inch of lift and it sits level, win win in my book. It REALLY needs bigger tires, now...lol. I laso need to get adjustable control arms, now.
I'm hoping to do some tech. talk with you guys on this forum. I am always looking for new ideas to make my XJ better. Hope to see some of you on the trail vary soon.

I 4wheel mostly at Walker Valley ORV area. It is just east of Mt. Vernon. I have also wheeled Tahuya State Forest ORV area over on the Peninsula near Bremerton. I have wheeled Rieter pit as well but, it's been almost 10 years since I've been there. I know it has changed a lot since then based on the new map I printed from the ***** 4x4 website. I really want to 4wheel VERY MUCH BAD at Evans CreeK ORV area and Elbe Hills ORV area. I definitely want to get down to the Tillamook State Forest ORV area in Oregon, too. If any of your guys are ever in the area and want to get on some cool trails, come check out Walker Valley... Be sure and drop me a message and I'll more than happy to meet you there and show you around.
I will also get some pics of my Home Brew cold air intake and get hem on here. It's basically a piece of 3" PVC pipe, a couple of brass fittings and clamps bought at my local Home Depot, A Spectre 3" cone filter from the local Autozone and some fancy Dremel tool work. The whole thing ran me about 40 bucks to build. Most of it was for the cone filter. You can make it work with any kind of air filter you prefer. I just went for cheap. Man, did it make a HUGE difference. Sounds cool too when you get on it. I did my exhaust shortly after the intake so I can't hear it quite so much, anymore. Love that Flowmaster sound.

Welcome to CF from KY. Just moved here from University place about a year ago. Sounds like you have a nice rig (minus the rusty's). Great to have ya.

Trust me, brother, when I say I couldn't agree with you more about Rusty's. The leafs are too stiff, the coils are too soft and I just found out the hard way that the 20 Bucks they charge for a new adjustable track bar link is a rip off. The OEM tie rod end is the same damn part and I got one out of a scrap yard for 5 bucks. Oh, and plus it's another 20 bucks to have the 20 dollar part shipped. I just wish they could have at least thrown in a kiss or some free lube with it.

My son is saving up for the RC 6.5" lift kit. He is going to put it on his 87' with 33s. I'm as excited to get it put on as he is, I think. Do you know if RC sells adjustable upper and lower control arms, separately?

Thanks for the gouge on Rough Country pieces there, XJ Stryker. The more of these Rusty's pieces I get replaced with something else, the happier I'll be. Besides ever since I put my Daystar spacers on with the arms from the 4.5" lift, my front looks and acts wierd. I knew it would, I just figured I could live with it. Which I have but my tires have started wearing a lot faster. It's almost time to get new skins but, before I do I want to fix this little problem with my front end by getting adjustable upper and lower control arms so I can ge the front axle where it should be so the castor will be correct for A 6" Lift. I'll PM Grimus99XJ tonight.
