New Guy Here

Hey Y'all,

My name is Josh. I'm new to the forum. I currently do not own an XJ but plan to in the near future. I have a problem when it comes to the near future. I have a reluctant wife. I have her semi-on board with the idea, but she isn't quite there yet. I'm not picky on the XJ I want. I just want a 4-door, 4.0l 5-speed manual. I don't care about color or mileage. I plan on doing a lot of rebuilding anyway. Not looking to make a rock crawler. Leaning more towards on/off road, daily driver, utility vehicle, take anywhere I need to go XJ. Funds aren't readily available. My wife is still working on getting a job due to recent PCS move with the Navy. I was in the central valley in California for 8 years. Now I'm in the Hampton Roads area in Virginia. We just bought a house so we really don't have the cash to blow. Right now I'm just looking for an unmolested XJ that runs and drives just fine. Good to be on the forum. I look forward to seeing what y'all have built so I can start planning my build.

God Bless,
Josh

99 XJ with 190k miles. 4.0l with automatic. Good shape. Runs and drives. Needs an AC compressor and passenger window either has a pinched wire or needs a regulator. Gonna get more details once I go drive it this weekend.

!!!!!!WARNING!!!!!

If you see a silver 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4wd listed on Craigslist or anything like that please be aware. I stumbled upon this little gem listed at $2,000. They said they would ship it from CO Springs to Virginia free via military transportation services. The XJ had only 74,000 miles and was in pristine condition. Booked well over the asking price. The seller wanted the purchase to be done via PayPal My Cash. Sounded too good to be true, so I did some digging. Come to find out, all the information that was given to me through email were all red flags for a known scam. I immediately terminated communications and will not be buying that Jeep. See below.

Hello Josh,

My name is Brenda Pierce and I'm the owner of the 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport Classic posted on Craigslist. Very safe and reliable jeep. The jeep runs, shifts and drives like new. The engine starts and idles smoothly. It only has 74,200 original miles, 4.0L engine, auto trans, 4WD. This jeep has a clean and clear title in my name and is licensed and insured. No liens/loans, no accidents, no problems whatsoever. Owner's manual and full service records included. The jeep has all of its original floor mats, all books, complete set of tools and keys. Everything works in the jeep ( lights, gauges, radio, windows, locks, A/C blows ice cold, etc. ). It has no leaks or drips and does not smoke.

I bought the jeep when I was serving in U.S. Air Force Space Command (AFSPC), based in Colorado Springs, CO and now I am deployed at Gowen Field Air National Guard Base in Boise, ID. We are training, getting ready for leaving the country. The jeep will be delivered from Colorado Springs, CO because it is stored there in our military compound.

The price I'm asking for the jeep is $2,000 including delivery and handling to your address. This is an urgent sale and the jeep will be delivered free of charge through our military transportation service to your address, average delivery time is 3 business days, depending on destination. All paperwork you need for ownership ( title, bill of sale, owner's manual, etc. ) will be provided along with the jeep. The price was reduced because I need to find a buyer before my next deployment take place and I don't want to waste more time negotiating. I will not negotiate the price. I will take in consideration only those buyers who are really interested in buying the jeep, to be sure I won’t waste my time with endless discussions. This way, I shall be assured of the serious intentions.

The financial part will be managed by eBay, which means you will have a 15 days inspection period before committing to buy the jeep. Using eBay service we are both 100% covered during the steps of this transaction. They will keep your money into a protection account until you get the jeep and will release me the money only after the inspection period is over and you agree to keep it. If you decide not to keep it eBay will refund you the money within 24 hours, no questions asked, and shipping back will be my concern.

If you are serious about buying the jeep in a timely manner please reply with your full name and shipping address ( street address, city, state, zip ) in order to open a case with eBay. They will send you an invoice with more details about payment, shipping and insurance and will explain better the entire procedure. Looking forward to doing business with you.

Thank you and God Bless!

Oh I got caught up in that scam as well, they even started threatening me... it was so funny. I finally told them to F off and go waste someone else's time. Maybe they would find some sucker that would actually believe them...
