Default New guy, Factory Diesel MJ, Metric Ton MJ, and '97 Country

Hey guys, just had to drop in and say yo. I am a moderator for ComancheClub.com, and just picked up a late model XJ - '97 Country loaded with all the goodies. I've been doing research on adding the OHC and some odds and ends here, so I figured I would make it official and sign up. Information sharing goes both ways.

Since one of my MJ's is a bit more ahem, rare, and steals attention from the other, I'll start with that one.

'86 Jeep Comanche "X" 4x4 2.1L Renault Intercooled Turbo Diesel

I picked it up about a year ago now. A CC member had hit a rough patch and needed some cash as well as some vehicles gone before he took an assignment overseas. I had seen a factory diesel on eBay waaay back when I was in high school, and it always was something I was interested in. I had to make a move. After some quick moving, I decided to make the trip from Chicago, IL to Virginia Beach, VA. I didn't have all the cash, so I decided to part with my 'Unicorn', which was a late build '92 MJ Eliminator in a rare only one known to exist Hunter Green Metallic on an Elim. I borrowed a truck and trailer and sold the '92 in PA, then picked up the Diesel. It's a 2.1L, AX5, 223, and D30/35 with 4.10's. 150K, and led a pretty rough life.

So far, I have done all the filters, the timing belt (had to find it in Belgium), the valve cover gasket (Hamburg, Germany), dash swap, interior gut, alternator, injection pump, and some maintenance parts here and there. It's a nice little truck, has plenty of power, and some MPG numbers that are incredible. I average about 30 MPG in mixed driving.

When I got it:

Current state:

It started life as an '87 4.0L AW4 2WD D44. I picked up a rolled '92 MJ with 88K original and a 4.0L, AX15, 231, and a set of 4.10 D30/D44 axles. I am currently getting everything done so I can start reassembly. I had the frame/underbody/engine compartment blasted, just got done with the POR15-ing of it all, and am now moving on to painting the rest. It will be a current Jeep color, PW7 'Bright White' when I am done. I plan on doing a 4.5" BDS long arm, with some 32-33's. I have a couple sets of black interior to pick from, as well as a factory Jeep/Ramsey hidden winch option to put on the front. Should be neat.

I picked up the XJ as a replacement for my DD ZJ, and love it. I've never owned a late model XJ, and it's quite a bit more refined than the older ones. Mine has leather, all the power, but no OHC or hitch, which I plan on changing. It's one of the cleaner ones I had found... Bought it from an independent shop who had gotten it as a payment. They put a radiator, water pump, hoses, front brakes/rotors, both unit bearings, axle u-joints, fixed the A/C, and even replaced the lift gate shocks. The PO was the OO, so I got the window sticker, all the original paperwork, original title, and even had the delivery ticket from the truck when it got shipped from Toledo to the dealer. It took me about 8 months for me to find one I was happy with (and that wasn't priced in the stratosphere), so it feels great to be back in an XJ finally.

Good to be here and on. I would be happy to answer any questions about my fleet, and am always willing to share. A lot of people have questions about the diesel, and it's fun to put some myths/mysteries to bed.

Hang around me long enough. People well start giving them to you. I am out of room, or I would have taken an offer for a free one.

Thanks! As for the flag, Ebay, from eddiestakes. It's one sided though... Only drawback.

Thanks. The red interior was a bit rough at first... But it has grown on me. My first car was a Comanche, and the rest is history. I've had many, in all shapes and sizes.
