Default new to forum-new to xj's altogether!

well,im going to buy my first xj in the morning.found it on craigslist,and told the guy if he'd hold it for me id make the 3 hour drive to get it tomorrow. that oughta be a fun way to spend the first day of the new year! 1-1-11...sounds like a good time to dive into a new project dont it?
its nothin special,its an 86 4 cyl 5 speed 4 door with a 3 in. lift. for $700 i aint expectin much,but it should still be fun to beat on!

Not bad, looks like you have a small problem though... Too much space in the wheel wells.

yeah...i agree. it looks pretty goofy!
i was hoping it would flex up good with those small tires,but it doesnt..back tire comes off the ground before the front comes anywhere near tuckin up in the wheelwell...seems like something must be limiting it.i guess im gonna search the site some more to try to figure it out.
it seems to run well (other than the 4x4 not engaging). clutch,trans,t-case,engine,and rearend all seem great...way better than i expected for the money!

remove rear sway bar,it wont effect the ride at all and will let you flex alot more,and front sway bar disco's

I fully agree. fastest way to flex.

ok..i'll do the swaybars this week (as soon as i get that 4x4 actuator goin)
also huntin some cheapo used or retread tires..gotta have something in a mud terrain.
then i got to figure out a way to mount a (cheapo harbor freight) 9000 lb. winch up front...its been sittin in my shed for about 2 years waitin for somethin to go on!
it was killin me to have "family day" today...im really itchin to get out there an get started!

treadwright.com has retread tires for cheap and in M/T's

got that frontend lockin in..then while i was under there i disconnected the front sway bar...WOW whatta difference!!
the rear bar goes in the trash tomorrow!!

did you just disconnect it or remove front sway bar?

just disconnected it. i'll keep it and add quick disconnects since this thing will probably be driven a couple weeks a year.
