Picked this up at auction. Ever since I bought my 88 Silver Comanche brand new, I wanted a 2 door Cherokee. Well, it finally happened. This is my 89 box, and it's a stripper. No cassette, no power locks/windows, no rear defrost, no rear wiper, no cruise. It does have the gauge package, AC and auto tragic. Came with no key, so I really took a chance. The last vehicle I got at auction with no key had a bad engine. Swapped in a new key cylinder, charged the battery, and it started. Drove it down the road, and it shifts. Needs work, but I think it's a pretty solid starting point. Frame is totally solid, probably as a result of living in NC and VA for probably all of its life. Over the last 15 years, I found over 9k worth of receipts, including a rebuilt trans 12k miles ago. Multiple radiators, crank sensors, starters. I grew up in Kenosha, so definitely no stranger to AMC. The only thing I don't like is someone replaced the driver door hinges, and totally booger welded them in, and the door has about an inch of droop. I have to look into it more, to see if it's the door or the frame that may be jacked. Anyway, it's great to be back.
I had to look up what RENIX was. PO (one of them) put in 4 door seats in the front. They will recline but not tip forward like I think the 2 door seats should. I may be looking for seats, may not. It's just going to be me driving it, so no real need for rear seat access. I was able to get some SOS pads and clean the roof. No more black stuff up there, but not a lot of paint either. If I get around to it, I'll paint it. If not, it's still just a beater Jeep.
Hyundai Tiburon seats fit very nice and can be had from a pick and pull cheap. There's a few write ups on installing, and they tip forward as you want, and are a comfy upgrade.

I did see that, now I need to find one of those articles again. That is definitely an option worth looking into.
