Looking for a good XJ
Well, finally get to spend some money on myself.... So, I decided to get the Jeep I've always wanted. Found a 2 door '99 with no rust and a 5 sp manual trans.. Problem resides in the I4 motor.... sound like a thrown rod. This Cherokee is too good to pass on due to the price which is less than $500 (or is it??) as it has 4 new tires, and new front disc brakes, new battery and various other replaced items.... Should I get it, or pass? It is pretty basic without power windows or locks. and the steel rims. Any suggestions? Can I get a used I6 and put in or just find a good used I4 and keep it close to original?

Thanks. This "Jeep Thing" attitude is feeling good..... I'd like to know more about what is required for the I6 swap.... The I4 gets way better gas mileage. I didn't know if it would do ok with the I4 for the occasional jaunt into the woods/trails. Or was it just plain underpowered. Heard that is why they were only available with 5 sp tran. I've never had a jeep before. Had other 4X4's but no jeep and always wanted one.
