Default Just picked up my XJ. What now?

Hi, I just bought an '88 cherokee limited, yes i know its old, but the price was right and already had a bit of work done to it. it already has a 4.5 inch long arm kit and 31 inch BFG mud terrains. Im wondering if anyone has a kind of priority list of things to get done to make it more trail worthy. Id also like to keep it capable of being a daily driver. And about me im handy with tools (aircraft mechanic) so can handle most things i would need to do.

thanks, XJ Edens

Lift, axles tires. And you should be good for the trails. I would say gears to but you want a daily drier so im not sure if you want lower gears. I have 33 inch tires and i think if i was going to go any bigger i would get axles swapped. Oh and an after market air cleaner. Thats a good thing to. Semi cheap but makes a big diffrence

Hey welcome to the forums! As far as trail worthy goes, it really depends what you are going to be doing/ where you live. It is pretty easy to dump alot of money into these things. Where I live (montana) most of our trails have alot of snow/water crossings/and rocks/boulders. Recovery is always pretty important (bumpers/winch etc) As well is armor for me (skid plates/sliders). Also I needed to be high enough to to get through the snow/creeks and an intake high enough to avoid sucking water down (I went with a cowl intake). I went with 4.10 gears in mine and with my first set of tires (34s) I could still do 70-75 easy and have plenty of juice offroad. Now that I have moved up to 35x12s and have a set of 37s waiting to go on, rather than regear I bought a stroker motor. Lockers are also an amazing tool. They really make a difference no matter what you are doing. Pretty much just look at what you plan to do/can afford to do and go from there. Good luck!
