Just got my first XJ (And I don't know what I'm doing!)

Hello, All! I recently became the proud owner of a green 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport. Traded her for a six pack and 10 free shooting lessons. I'm excited to turn her into a mud toy but I have no idea what I'm getting myself into. University of Youtube. I know next to nothing about cars and to prove it I'm going to ask whats probably a really stupid question...

What are these wires and where are they supposed to lead? This completely escaped my attention when I was looking it over prior to purchase and I can't seem to find any answers elsewhere...

Also below are some pictures of the Jeep =)

Other stuff: The Jeep runs but she overheats when I go around 45mph or more. The driver door latch likes to stick and I currently can't get the damn thing closed (took the door sensor out so it doesn't drain the battery). I'm told it needs a new front U joint. A belt that I haven't identified yet screeches pretty good for about 30 seconds after I turn the engine on. And I own a 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited.

Looks like a good project. Where do the wires lead to? Or where is the other end? As far as over heating, check the fluid level first. There is a list a mile long for over heating issues. To name a few, thermostat, water pump, clogged radiator, bad electric fan, bad clutch on fan,bad head gasket, bad head, just to start. Old jeeps and harleys, love them and learn to work on them, or love them and go broke paying someone else to work on them.

Welcome!

Those loose wires look to be what go to the o2 sensor based on their colors.
