Default Just got my first jeep..

Just got my first Jeep. It's a 1992 Cherokee Lerado. New transmission and nice leather interior I was wondering if it's worth converting to 4WD and the parts required. I own a Camaro Z28 so this I6 thing is kind of new to me. Anyways, the name's Mano.

Welcome... As far as converting to 4wd. The XJ Cherokees are probably one of the easiest. A front axle will bolt in, and you would need the 4wd trans and tcase and front and rear drive shafts. There are probably a few odds and ends that you will need. but as far as the big parts that should be it... I believe there are a couple of guys on here who may have already done this swap and would be able to tell you better...

Welcome to CF from Washington state!!

As far as converting a 2WD XJ to 4WD, it can be done. It's one of the easiest rigs around to make a 2WD version into a 4WD. If you're handy with a wrench and can do this yourself, just shop around for a 4WD XJ that doesn't run or has been hit in the rear in an accident. This would enable you to get the parts for a song, do the labor yourself and the front end parts you need would be in good shape.

Welcome from TEXAS. Prerunner is right but get the 4WD center console too.

Post specific questions in Cherokee Chat.

Welcome brother! The jeep is a easy beast to work on. If you have experience with twistin' wrenches, you can swap out the front axle, tranny etc. Good luck and keep us posted.
