Hi All. I’m hyped up. Purchased a two owner, two door sport, 4 WD, in-line 6, 5 speed manual. The vehicle was driven in California and Oregon. Then it was driven to Illinois, parked in a barn.
Rust is minimal. No body panel rust AT ALL. Some surface rust on anything in the undercarriage.
The only modification to the vehicle, outside of typical replaced components (starter, alternator, etc).. An owner attempted to add a trailer light electrical plug. At this point, not certain if that created some grounding issue that caused some fuses to blow... specifically fuses for the rear lights (including the brake lights). The alternative and anxiety inducing possibility is that there were three or four mice nests in the vehicle. Worried that a mouse may have nawed on a wire or two.
It needs a water pump, internal fuse box, paint, and a couple of gaskets. Paint is going to be a big issue, as I am in Indiana. IMO the salt will eat it alive if the currently un-rusted surfaces will rust at a rate of a mile a minute if not protected.
Looking foward to getting this Cherokee XJ restored!!!
