I've Had My 1996 Straight-Six Jeep for Six Weeks Now!
My name is Nathan Cowlishaw and I live in Southern Utah. I'm a photographer by trade (Talking Tree Photography) and I am hoping to invest in my new 1996 Jeep Cherokee with a Straight Six. There's 140,000 thousand miles on the engine and I am curious to know how long these engines can last with proper care? I'm also learning and researching ways to invest in my Jeep and make it my primary tool for getting in and out of the hills safely as I live in the Desert Southwest. . .I'm very glad to have come across this forum and stuff. My profile pic is my Cherokee. I'd like to get feedback!? Anyways, nice to make your acquaintance and I hope to get to know folks on here!
On another note, I just purchased 4 BFGoodrich T/A All Terrain tires for all around usage. I wanted to get the KM2 Mud Tires and they were only $100 more but I do a lot of highway traveling around the Southwest and was afraid that the mud tires would wear fast because of my over-usage of my off-road vehicles on the highway. It's several hundreds of miles sometimes for me to get to my off-road destinations. So I'd like feedback as to whether I made a wise decision sticking with the All Terrains. I've been happy with them for the last few days. We do get muddy desert roads as well, so the poor mud performance I've been reading about on these tires is a bit of a concern.
So Thanks Guys! I hope this works as an intro to the forum!

Welcome!
You'll get well past the 250k mark if you keep up with proper maint.
I've seen plenty of people use the BFG ATs in the desert, you should be fine.
I wouldn't be too concerned til the mud get up over the top of the tire.

Welcome to CF Nathan.
The inline 6 is a rather reliable motor. I've seen some run 300,000 +
If it's running good with no knocks or anything then I'd just start with fluid changes and a tune up.
Since your a photographer here's a thread you might like.
