Introduction 1996 XJ
Hello Everyone,
Been following the forum for a while but never formally jumped in. I have a 1996 XJ that was our daily driver. Has about $250K miles on it. Stopped using it as it possibly has a cracked head as exhaust gases were detected in the coolant and it keeps over heating. I am considering a head swap but haven't pursued it yet. We considered getting rid of it but I have had second thoughts since we have done so much to it in recent years and just hate to get rid of it.
Items done to it
1) transmission replaced about 5 years ago
2) Repainted about 5 years ago
3) New tires about a year ago
4) A/C repaired about 2 years ago
5) Water pump, radiator and thermostat replaced this year
Items need to do
1) Replace head liner
2) Repair or replace engine. Either swap the head or rebuild the engine, not sure on the path yet.
3) Other upgrades as I learn from others and see what upgrades are popular.
Looking forward to the project.

That is beautiful. Worth a rebuild, either way.

Nice XJ. My favorite year is the '96, but it does suffer from a few "orphan year" issues, so make sure you read up on the fuel pump assembly and a couple of other things.
