Hi folks!
Hi, I bought a 2001 Cherokee 2.5TD Orvis yesterday. It was a bit of bargain and I couldn't resist!
Anyway, I'll probably be pestering you all for info over the next few weeks so I hope you are all friendly! I'm not an off road person - I have enough hobbies to take my money - I just wanted a safe and reliable car for my wife and child that I can get a couple of large dogs in the back.

I thought diesel was the devils fuel over in the States?
It seems about 20% are diesel in the UK with most of the rest being 4L autos. I would have liked a diesel auto but they didn't make them, the clutch is a bit stiff for my Mrs.
Diesel over here is £1.17 per litre ($8.66 per US gallon)edited
Petrol/Gas(95 RON) is £1.06 per litre ($7.91 per US gallon)edited
a loaf of cheap bread being £0.50 and normal wage after tax of £13,000 ish per year. I expect to spend £2000-£2500 per year on fuel or 20% of my income
I find the diesel pulls very well from low revs and the Jeep is quite quick off the mark. Fuel economy is ok at 50mph but when the average traffic speed is 75mph then it suffers a lot!
Also, most uk Cherokees seem to be command-track. I have not seen any with the more deisrable [to me] select-a-track

Thanks for the report on the fuel crisis as most of us think it is an American problem whereas you prove it is as big a problem on that side of the Atlantic as over here.
Still wish we had the diesels over here but wishing does not make it so. Glad to see that they are only available with a manual gearbox. I think of diesels as needing to be in front of a real gearbox.
Are Euros the norm there or are you still on the pound sterling, as you quote prices in pounds. I was under the impression that all of Europe was now on the Euro and that all other currency was history.

Its the idiots in Detroit that gave diesel its bad name over here.... Average people(okay not normal people, but jeepers at least) know the diesel advantages...But heck.. I have a few millions bushels of soybeans growing around me and my father-in-law works at a biodiesel plant...
