Default Hi Every one.

My name is Jim. I live in Lakewood, WA. I have been around this site for about a week, so it is time I introduce myself. I'm 47 years old. I am kind of new to the jeep thing. Although I have always owned trucks and 7 full size dodge vans, and would drive them thru the woods any where I wanted. wheater they were 4x4 or not. In 30 years, only got stuck 3 or 4 times. So in march I bought my first jeep, 1987 xj limited, all stock, 192,000 miles on it, $800.00. Mechanical everything works. But I have a list of issues I need to take care of. I'm pretty sure most of them are minor. The 2 that **** me off the most are, it doesn't idle at a stop, unless I two pedal it. It won't die, but it drop to about 200 rpm or lees. I'm sure it is one of the senors, just got figure out which one. The other is the front power windows don't work, and I always roll with my window open, even in winter. So I really like the site, and am trying to figure the searches out, to track down these and other issues. Any help, imformation, guidence toward these fixing these things would be greatly appreciated. I have done a couple of things to mine already, and have some new parts to go on, plus a Zone 3" AAL lift ready to go on. CAN'T WAIT!!!! I will take pictures and try to do a build thread. I have some metal and a welder, and so ideas to build my own rock sliders, and bumpers. Want it to be alittle different, and my own design.

Welcome to Jeep!! Enjoy the addiction. As for the idle thing, I have heard Idle Air Control is the cause of a LOT of idle type issues, take it out give it a good clean and put it back in....Mine was idling very high once in a while, I took my IAC out and cleaned it up, so far it hasnt given me any more trouble...if that doesnt work try replacing it.

Welcome to CF from Buck in Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island. The 2 things I would look at for the idle problems are Idle Air Control (IAC) (already mentioned) and Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) These are the 2 items you see on the Throttle Body that have electrical wires going to them. Oh! one other thing that can cause wierd idle issues is an exhaust leak in the manifold near the O2 sensor. We found this out with my son's 87 XJ.
