Default help..

hey everybody..

new to the 4 wheelin game. my cars are generally 2 inch from the tarmac. i live in long island so theres not much wheelin you can do..

im looking into getting a cherokee though. I need to get a 84' or an 85'. Can anybody tell me if this is wise or not. and if the v6 is a better motor that the 4 cyl. not going to got o/r that much. just for fun, and occasional snow.

and also, does these years come in 4 wheel drive?? the reason for these years is so that I can insure it under classic car insurance for only 100$ a year. it needs to be at least 25 years old..

Please share your knowledge, it would help me out a lot. Thanks in advance!!!

Welcome, from Wisconsin. Mine's a 1991, And a collectors next year. Here in Wisconsin collector's plates are to be used 11 out of 12 months a year, only. To drive the 12th. month, you need reg. plates. ( the 12th. month is Feb.) I guess they figure that a collectors shouldn't be driven in snow. I don't believe the DOT. counted on Truck collectors. I assume it's the same (or more restricted) for classics. I'm surprised the Ins. would be so cheap. When I had classic cars. I would of had to turn in cert. estimates of their values. For classic plates. (Ins. co. don't like to pay out collision on them.) So you might want to do a considerable amount of checking it out. Good luck to you.

The 4 cylinder is way to small and the v6 is notorious for eating bearings.

Get a rig with a 4.0L

nice, i just found another company to insure it but i dont think its considered a classic car. he said it would be light truck part time, w/e that means. 120$ for the yeaar and this time it only has to be 19 years and older. so i can get up to a 91 xj.. thats propably my best bet right? unless the 91 was a bad year or something. def want to try to get that 4.0 i heard these trucks are fun as hell.

Thanks guys. Its a relief to talk to people who actually are knowledgeable about this stuff. Try asking a regular shop mechanic particulars, and you will basically get nowhere. Also, is there anything I should look for, specifics about the vehicle.

For example, a spot that is usually rotted more than others, or perhaps a part of the heads i shoul check for leaks? Things like these which are XJ specific would be awesome! Thanks guys, you really are helping a lot!
