Default Hello from WA '89 XJ

Hello!

I purchased an 89 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 in December and have been working on it constantly ever since. It’s a great release for me and I’m learning so much. I was always the least mechanically inclined in my family, but as I get older, for some reason I just absolutely love it more and more. My brother and friends were building Chevy’s when they were 15! I came around a little later at 35 I guess, and am turning the Cherokee into something decent, I hope... One of my best friends and his father used to be very active in the Jeep world and used to host club events back in New Hampshire. All I remember from those days was… well actually not much at all! Those guys built, ran, and broke stuff that I’m only now starting to appreciate.

The 89 has posed many issues I’m attempting to solve. My next post will be a request for assistance! I plan to also post a build thread as I feel I’ve done well so far.

I was a hard worker but a trouble maker as a youth and “tried” college. That wasn’t working well, so I enlisted into the Army after Sept. 11th. I spent four years active Army at Bragg in the early 2000’s and grew up some. Airborne! I attended business school back home in NH after ETS’ing and went on to start a franchise with one of my closest childhood friends. I enjoy hunting, fly fishing, and coins and bullion in addition to my old XJ.

Welcome! There's a lot to learn here. I'm still scratching the surface.

Welcome to the Forum!

Your '89 XJ is known as a RENIX model due to the engine control systems it used. They are a bit peculiar compared to other vehicles of the era but all the info you need can be found here.

Best of luck.
