Hello from a new Cherokee owner. Let's get the build on!
Howdy fellas, new guy here checking in from Chesterfield, MI. Originally from Ohio but moved to MI for work.
Just purchased my first Jeep after being introduced to the world of off-roading by my buddy who has an older YJ. He tried to talk me into a wrangler as well but I opted for the classic clean look of the Cherokee and unmatched versatility, value, cargo space and utility. Not to mention it's excellent off-road ability while still being able to maintain on-road manners.
So I searched long and hard (on Craigslist) and finally found a very nice platform to start. She's a 2001 Sport, 4.0L I6, 150,000 miles, AW4, NP231, D30/Chrysler 8.25. Well, I think those are the specs anyway, I'm still learning! She's totally stock right now. It runs superb and the A/C even works! I mean it's hard enough to find a car that runs this good for $2000 let alone having working A/C. Most importantly, I was looking for something that had a solid unibody and had little to no rust, which is a rare find here in Michigan. But nothing a little time spent hitting the search button and many test drives couldn't solve.
Anyway, a big DIY kind of guy with some decent mechanical ability so I've got some plans for it and will probably start a build thread eventually. But until then let me introduce my first Jeep with a few pictures.
These were taken with my phone after a quick run through the car wash:
It's missing the front right fender flair.... and yes, those stickers are aftermarket.
Not sure if you can tell, but it's missing 2 of the 4 hubcaps.
Small dent in the front left passenger fender prevents the driver door from opening easily...

First mods...
Thanks for the warm welcome guys
Wanted to post a few pics of my first mods. I removed the side door molding, they were really faded grey and looked bad. I like the fresh clean look and style lines of the doors now. There's still a little adhesive residue, but you may not be able to see it in the pics. I'll work on removing that later. Took a little time, prying and pulling while using a heat gun to speed the process of removal.
Also went ahead and painted up the wheels. I trashed the 2 hubcaps that I had, washed the wheels up, sanded them down to remove rust and surface imperfections, primered them and painted them a graphite color out of a rattle can. They turned out pretty nice, it was my first time painting. That's my buddy in the pics giving me a hand. He did a lot of the painting, I did most of the prep.
You can tell I went mudding earlier that weekend by the looks of the leafsprings:
Finished product
We got a little overspray on the tires which I need to clean off (first time painter).... not sure how I'm gonna do that yet though. But overall, I'm happy with the progress.
What ya' think?
