I actually drive 97 wrangler as seen on my avtar . But i recently purchased 89 cherokee limited to turn into a trail rig for my soon to be wife!!! We love to wheel and love our jeeps!! I am a moderator on one of floridas fastest growing FREE Jeep and 4x4 club sites in the Tampabay area!!! www.Tbaja.com you will see me around here as the xj is a work in progress and i am a wrangler man myself (the xj is foreign to me somewhat!!!) any way the xj will be called " The Short Bus " per my better half LOL . it will be getting a fresh coat of yellow paint after the maiden voyage to the pits!!!!! probably a simple rig at first with just the 2" lift and 31" wheels. any help would be appreciated as i know the jeep community is a closley knit group of awesome folks!!!! Here is a club video i added i hope this is allowed?!! http://www.vimeo.com/2825457

Welcome to CF from Washington state. Throw out a thread with whatever Cherokee questions you may have. Gurantee somebody on here will be able to help you. I personally own 87 and 91 XJs. So, I've worked on the Renix era XJ and the HO era XJ quite a bit.

Welcome from NC. Trail beater sounds fun. If it's going to be a trail rig then here's an idea to get you started.
3" budget lift w/ shocks - very cheap
31's
Hack away at the front fenders
Rear fenders do a tuck and fold on them unless you got a mig welder.
Install some tow points.
Get a 8.25 29 spline or D44.
Welded up the rear end and go have a ball.
Shoot me a pm if you got some questions about how to do anything listed for supper cheap while not sacrificing quality to much. I love stretching out a dollar on a cheap jeep.

Is it a 27 spline or a 29 spline? 89 XJ's came with 27 splines. If you're only running 31's tough you shouldn't have any trouble out of it.
