Hello, from central pa
new to the forum but not to Jeeps, restored a 72 cj 5 from the bottom up (all fiberglass except hood, windshield frame & grill) why did I sell that. currently own 2006 liberty, 1996 Grand Cherokee lerado with 240k for a hunting/woods and plow wagon. and a when it came to getting our son his first vehicle it was a no brainer had to be a jeep, found a 1996 Cherokee sport with 196k with a perfect body but no floor for $600 everything else works and appears to have been well taken care of. Is it cruel to give a computer generations kid a Jeep with no power windows, door locks, seats, etc. and a cassette player?

Welcome! I'm also in Central PA, more southern side down in York!
To answer your question, I think you'd be doing the kid a favor by getting him such a vehicle. We need our children to know what value a bare-bones vehicle without any fancy computerized control systems can offer. For instance, I'm an IT guy and work on computers for a living...but keep them out of my car and my Jeep. All cars newer than like 2000 are junk to me. Not only are they all plasticky and hideous, but the control systems and how difficult they seem to work on makes me never want to buy a newer car, ever. It's a great experience being able to own a vehicle that you can fix yourself.
Congrats on the purchase!

Welcome fellow central Pennsylvanian. Where are you in central PA?
Also, you asked about giving a computer generation kid a car with no power anything and a cassette player, I think it is perfect, but it would be even better if the XJ is a manual transmission. The cassette player may be a little cruel though
