Default Hello

Just purchased a 98XJ 3 days ago. Trying to work out the gremlins before winter. This will be my only winter vehicle, other 2 vehicles are 2010 Harley Fat Boy, and 2001 C5 Corvette. Always wanted one of these. It's got some issues, from previous owner, but hopefully will work through them.

Hello and welcome Jake!
Hopefully the gremlins will be worked out before you have to tuck the Fat Boy away for the winter. Any of them major?

No, I don't think anything major. I am just wanting it to run and not leave me stranded for now. The steering is really loose, so I plan on replacing all steering hardware this winter. Other things are currently check engine light is on and emergency brake light is on. Gonna get a OBD2 scanner this week and resolve those. Instrument cluster has quit on me once, I believe that is the loose connection on the 2 plugs behind the panel. Valve cover gasket needs replaced. Also, Oil sending unit works great, about 55 psi oil at start up, but once it warms up, oil pressure is all over the place, I assume just the sender from what I've read. Other than that, again, this will be my daily driver this winter, 70 miles round trip to work. Mostly minor stuff, except the steering.

Welcome.

I'd like to recommend cleaning every engine, chassis and electrical ground connection.
1.Electricity always takes the path of least resistance.
2. The computer and electronics "need to see clearly" to work properly.

Thanks for the link, I saved that one for sure. I changed my oil sending unit this weekend, that fixed the low oil pressure, glad it was just the sendior. Now after complete warm up, at hiway speed about 38-40 lbs. idling about 25lbs. Before at warm up, was 10-15lbs, at idle 10lbs. Thanks for the info.
