had my jeep a day and it's already been flipped!
hey everyone! i just bought a 1985 jeep cherokee chief, and i gotta say it's been quite fun for having only 600 dollars sunk into it. it's got the 2.8 liter and an automatic. the engine is a little tired, but with a little bit of elbow grease i think i can get it running alright. it's a belated birthday present for my girlfriend, who's also a new member of this forum. her sn is cherokeebaby.
i know by now you're probably wondering about the title.
my girlfriend and i went out for her first time driving a four wheel drive last night, and we went down a sortof muddy road in the kansas backcountry. it was starting to get dark, but we kept going anyway and ended up going downa hill, with another hill going up ahead of us. being on street tires i was afraid we would get stuck at the bottom if she didn't hit the gas. i told her to gun it, and she did. we caught a rut and then hit the passenger's side front into a three foot burm. the jeep went up and landed on its side.
my friends came over, helped us push it over. we waited 20 minutes, started it up, and drove home unscathed. some dents were put into the driver's side doors, no windows were broken. everything still WORKS.
it's a pretty amazing first impression, and i'm glad she didn't flip my bronco!

Welcome and try to keep the greasy side down from now on.
If she is driving might I suggest a 5 point Simpson harness?
And a helmet.

Welcome from Utah.
Sounds like fun. May I suggest some seat covers? If you are going to do that kind of wheel'n on a regular basis it may be money well spent to get some seat covers you can throw in the wash when you get home (if you know what I mean).
