First XJ!
Hi all,
disclaimer: this might accidentally be a double post. if so, my bad and mods please feel free to delete
After looking for 4 weeks I just picked up the perfect XJ for me. Legitimately from a little old lady who bought it new in 1997 (have the title to prove it). AMC I6, 4WD, clean interior, no rust, 118k on the clock... $3,000. After inspecting it I didn't even bother bringing up any of the issues I found, just handed her a $300 deposit and came back as soon as possible to pick it up. These things are impossible to find low mileage for a decent price here in Denver so I'm ecstatic. Normally I'd feel bad getting a deal like that off of a sweet old lady but she was pretty sentimental and told me more than once she was happy it was going to someone who knew how to take care of it. Driving it home I realized that these trucks are evenbetterthan I remembered ex's being.
The bad:
A/C blows hot, radio broken, cheap gauge cluster w/o tach, rotors warped, ATF dark brown, needs alignment.
I'm planning on living with the broken A/C and the rest is easy peasy but there is one that gave me pause... stop leak in engine coolant. Particularly with no temp gauge I want to get as much of that junk out of the system as possible before going up into the mountains with it. And then I'm concerned that either way the heater core will be shot which looks like a huge pain to replace.
At any rate, super excited and looking forward to being part of the community. Going to be nice to be on a forum where people actually wrench again. Love my CTS VSport but those forums have waaaaay too many people who take their cars to the dealer for fluid changes.
Best,
Bill
