Hello, I recently inherited my fathers 2000 Cherokee Sport. He babied it , and with only 48k miles it's still in great shape besides some paint minor paint oxidation. It is bone stock except for exhaust , and K&N .
My current off road vehicle is a 2006 GMC 2500hd crew cab s/b, Cognito 6" ,all correct geometry on 35's . It's a great truck , but an unwieldly beast off road . I had always asked my Dad for first dibs on the XJ when he sold it . That's besides the point now .
What I wil be looking for is the wealth of knowledge here . I plan on making this a capable trail rig, but maintain some highway usability .This is my first "Jeep" . I did own a 71' FJ40 some years back , which was partially crushed by a large Ponderrosa Pine branch in a thunderstorm on a wheeling trip back in 98'.
That pretty much sums me up.

Thanks , JR.

Nice! Low millage ones are hard to come by these days! And a heirloom as well.

Now unfortunately, Ill tell you the bad news. The 2000+ came with a Low-pinion(weaker) Dana 30 unlike its predecessors... If you plan on throwing significantly larger tires (32s+), I would look for a HP from Craig's list or a junkyard.

They also came with the 0331 head which is prone to cracking if you let the motor overheat. Watch your temps when offroading and you'll be fine.

I know you said you don't plan on doing anything extreme but just throw them in the back of your head in case you do. Not anything you have to worry about currently.

Welcome to cherokeeForum man!

Howdy Ivan. I work down in the BayArea , and have another home there. Good to know you're on the same page as me As far as the Stock Jeep. I'm a ex- Toyota , and current large truck guy. I knew one day I'd get my arms around a good Jeep. Look forward to see what you do with yours .

This one will stay stock and pretty. My 86 CJ7 however is all game for the upgrades and extras. It has a lift Lockers front and rear with a brand new 4.0 swap out.

It is my avatar.
