I have enjoyed my cherokee tremendously since I purchased it in 2010 but for years I wanted 4wd. I contemplated converting it and even had a dana 30 in my garage for a while but never went through with it. I came across a 99 sport for sale locally and couldn't resist. So.. hello once again!

I got it home late on tuesday and wednesday I swapped over the wheels and tires from my 98 classic. I'm also planning to swap headliners because my 98 has the overhead console and I don't think I can part with it. I've got to do some research though before tearing things apart.

I bought an XJ in '08 and had to sell it in 2010 and just now got another, so it's been five years for me too! Congrats on a very nice and clean XJ. Looks great.

in what will likely be the order it happens:

led dash lights and interior lights (doing the gauges tonight)
overhead console from my 98
the transfer case might have a leak so ive got to look into that asap
draining the diffs and cleaning/painting the diff covers
misc painting and rust proofing everything down below
build some kind of storage drawer or shelf for the back
2 or 3 inch lift with full leaf replacement

I don't have any interest in rock crawling. I want to be prepared for a night of camping at all times.

Welcome to the forum. The overhead console can be swapped over but the connectors at the kick panel changed. But with either some splicing or re-pinning the connectors, u can use same wires. OR find a 99 wiring harness for your overhead console and use it.

Sounds awesome! I've wanted to build a storage thing for the back of mine but haven't got around to it. Seems like a fun project! Enjoy it!
