Another new guy from Minnesota!

Hey guys,

Been lurking for awhile and reading up a lot but it seems like a fun place so I figure I better stop and stay awhile. Just picked up this 88 XJ a week or so ago as a winter beater and thought it would be good to learn more about them. I've been in the sport compact tuning scene since I could drive and love anything that moves, turns, spins, etc.

Here's the racecar:

I'm originally from Madelia, a really small town near Mankato in southern MN. Now I live in downtown Minneapolis due to my job. I'm guessing you are from Duluth?

Yes, that is a Neon. I am still running the stock engine (2.0L) with a TD-04 turbo off of an SRT-4. Should be around 200-230whp right now (ETA: at 9 psi which is what I run daily). The stock rods start to give out around 250whp so I'm trying to stay away from that right now. I haven't run it at a 1/4 mile track but similarly set-up Neons run mid to low 13s on street tires and high 12s on slicks. I just got a 2.4 block recently that is going to get SRT internals and a bigger turbo. Should be good for 500whp :head:

Oh I already love the XJ. Even thought I haven't been able to drive it much yet due to the overheating problems, I know it will be fun, especially with snow in the forecast. I'm actually putting in a new radiator tomorrow night based on information that I found in Cherokee Chat on here. Already replaced the bottle and thermostat and it still runs hot while the radiator is ice cold. Gee I wonder what it could be...

Thats not bad for a 2.0 thats really good. Im impressed. You will be doing alot better than what I did Course I had a MX3 1.8 V6. Not to big of a motor. lol.

Anyways. Back to jeeps. Im glad you like your jeep. You should make your first mod Some Howler thresholds. They are very nice!! You can find the in the Vendor forum under Howler.

I know the ad doesn't say, but the XJ is an 88 Limited with 252k on the odometer. My bigger concern is just keeping it running for now. Lots of little things wrong with it, hence the decent price (I actually paid about half of what the ad says for it). If all else fails with this one, I can definitely see myself getting another one in the near future.

Welcome from TEXAS. Sry to see you are trying to convert the closed system to an open one. The original provided a place for the fan switch so now you have to fab a location or switch it to a manual fan switch to get your aux fan to run.
