Added an oldie but a goodie to the stable
 

First time Jeep owner here checking in!

Have had several SUV's in the past and enjoyed them all but none were ever off-road warriors. Let the mud fly but it's just my thing and to squeeze in one more hobby $$ just hasn't been in the cards for me. That's okay, I hope to bring a ton of other stuff to the forum. I'm a long time car guy, avid SCCA Member back in the day, recently was more of a road course fan but now as noted above, onto a few other things. This Jeep is for my son who is about to turn 16. I have been detailing vehicles and even some planes since the age of 14 but lately have "hired" him to help out with plans to transition my work to him. He's been a big help and does work with me on the weekends and now that he's older and has some good strength, 2019 will mark him doing a good bit more work on it. Typically we do 1-2 vehicles per week/weekend as dad is just too time constrained. We have a nice heated work area so it goes on all year which is nice. Not sure of the rules so I won't link to it here but if you're in central Ohio and have needs just let me know. It's 100% referral business as I have no need or desire to advertise, etc.

Plans for this Jeep are to get him introduced to it and who knows, perhaps he will want to mod it and begin some trail adventures. In the mean time the fall-back is to keep it as relatively stock unmolested super super clean example of a quality XJ. This week was the week I was looking to pull the trigger on one of a few different rides for him but as fate would have it, this gem popped up. While I wasn't in the market for a Jeep, this one proved too good to be true. Add in the price was outstanding so I jumped on it. You all likely know vehicthings are selling for shocking amounts with 135-200k on the ODO and in many cases no where near as much love as this one has had.

This one has a mere 85k on the odometer and has been garaged it's whole life with minimal snow exposure and zero mud use. Super low miles for the last year of the Jeep XJ, 2001. Say hello to "Old Blue" as his former owner affectionately referred to him as. Great lady and one who truly took amazing care of her vehicle. This beauty will undergo a great detail but honestly, inside, the car is like brand new. If NEW is a 10 this one is a 7.5 to 8 as-is. Her main passenger was her elderly mom and she kept is as long as she did because her wheel chair fit in the back much easier than in the RDX she had eyed up and eventually bought. Even the underside is like new. She admitted to taking it in snow but not very often. She works from home and just plain didn't venture out much and when she did she drove her previous Acura, an AWD TL.

Overall plans are to keep her nearly stock. No real "Jeep" oriented mods. First updates will be:

• Full in/out detail and ceramic coating of course!
• Tires. These measure at 6/32nds and it needs some quality rubber before I put my son in it. Looking for something that will be relatively quiet and do well in rain and snow. More street than trail but not minivan or soccer mom like.
• Tint. Easy enough to do and remove if needed. Looking at 35% on the rears and 50% on the sides. I know some will disagree but I want him to be able to see out of the back at night.
• Stereo. I'll keep the stock one but a decent set of speakers and a blue tooth head unit with android auto, etc. will be on the list for sure. He's going to want to have some tunes and like it or not, I don't want him holding a phone and we all know at some point they are out of our control...
• Mechanically she's very sound and has had all the major stuff done. I'm going to check out the steering box and see if an adjustment will shore it up and go from there. So far I think it's fine and just that I'm not used to a Jeep.
• Lastly, I need to get a spare key fob. It's old enough that I'm sure a generic one may work but I have to read up on what's needed here and perhaps how they are programed.

I'll stop with the boring intro stuff and am now off to hunt the forums for some knowledge. Anyone in Central Ohio feel free to hit me up or chime in. I used to be a regular at the Cars and Coffee and various meets but for the past few years I've been doing the detailing thing on weekends as my day job keeps me busy during the week.

I like the higher end Jeeps so I am going to be keeping an eye on your build thread.
One thing about tints. I am guessing those are Factory. Jeep likes to refer to their windows in 2 ways.
Tinted and Privacy. So tinted is not really tinted. Just means some sort of UV protections supposedly.
Privacy is what everybody would call tinted.
My point. If that is Factory Privacy Glass then you are not removing the tints to replace.

Thanks and I appreciate the input. The pic here I didn't realize it looks a bit deceiving due to the reflection. It's a fish-bowl. The only factory tint on it isn't even the privacy tint of say modern SUV's and minivans it's just a UV Protection and clear. The rear windows are fish bowl clear. I always use the highest end quality ceramic tints when I do them. See the vehicles in my sig and the tint on them.

So all the windows are clear?
If so did not even think it was possible to get a higher end Jeep without Privacy glass.

Just look at the bottom of the windows where the turned purple cheap aftermarket tint
that the PO did. That is what prompted the swap for me.

Okay, maybe not perfectly clear but certainly not privacy or as dark as our minivan was on the rears. In daylight I can still see into the rear of the vehicle. Enough for me to call it a fishbowl, especially when parked next to my wife's SUV.

Its a Limited too!
I'd like to know what proportion of XJs were sold as Limiteds (leather interior, ABS, center console, door pockets) .
It must be quite low, I've only seen a couple in the wild.
