Hey guys wassup, just introducing myself.. The name's Adam, live in Charleston, S.C. From England originally, been Stateside for 10yrs..

Just bought a '97 XJ, 2WD, 4DR, 4.0L SIX, Automatic Trans, 'Hendrick Edition' [Dealer Name].. Base model, all stock, 150,000k on the ODO.. I don't rockcrawl or have need for 4x4, I can get out of anything I can imagine getting into with a good set of mud tires & RWD.. My requirements were exactly low mileage, good body, no rust, good running motor/trans, base model.. Paid $1800 cash & I'm more than happy..

I'm gonna have fun with her, in my head I see 'ZAV', Zombie Assault Vehicle... hahaha :gunsmilie: Bumpers, Racks, Lights etc... Urban Terrorist could be another genre.... :cowboy:

Anyway, first is get her running mechanically perfect, which shes not far off.. Expect dumb questions & I thank you for the help in advance...

Cheers.

NSS for $17.25 + rebuild materials & Shifter Shaft alignment/Adjustment Question..?

Hey guys.... Ok, remember I said 'expect stupid questions'... lol... I'm no Jeep expert, this is the first Cherokee I have owned.. I am however very skilled mechanically, building vintage motorcycles is my thing, so please excuse the dumb-***-ness [regarding my Jeep questions..!]........

So, today I went to my local pull-a-part junk yard, retrieved a NSS from a '97 XJ.. I need to rebuild one to replace mine.. I didn't wanna yank the one off my XJ, I wanted to get a spare.... Paid $2.00 to get into the junk yard, $17.25 for the part & 30 mins of my time looking round for a suitable donor/pulling the part.. Also spent $20 on Contact Cleaner/Brake Cleaner/RTV Silicone/Di-electric Grease..

Using this link to rebuild http://bc4x4.com/tech/2010/jeep-neut...ty-switch-nss/ thanks to many of you on this forum for the link..

Question...
My shifter shaft seems to be out of whack somewhere.. When in 'Drive' the orange indicator on the shift gate is a little further past its designated 'D'.. Also I cannot select '1-2', I'm guessing because I cannot get the shifter back far enough, due to the fact that when all the way back in the shift gate on the console, It will not go the extra 1/2 inch or so to engage '1-2' in the tranny..

Anybody have any idea of what I'm rambling on about..? lol....?

I thought maybe bushing @ first but the bushing connecting the linkage on the tranny to the cable has zero play & seems to be fine.. Where else can I adjust my shifter back into a position to fully engage all gears..?

Thanks..!

:wallbash:
