Default 85 Cherokee New Jeep owner.

Hey guys got this jeep to offroad with. . I had a 85 ranger stock v6 2wd short be that I traded for this jeep. She's really clean and has great mud tires. She drives ok but has a strong gas smell. Also doesn't like to idle much it idles really low. And there's slight black smoke comin out when I accelerate. I read blue smokes the rings or pistons black smoke is fuel related and white smoke is water/coolant mixing with oil. So I think it could be the fuel pressure regulator? Maybe she also needs a tune up. I can also tell there's a vacuum leak .

Thanks for the reply. I figure even if I had to swap a new engine It would totally be worth it

Welcome to CF! Nice '85 you ended up with. Is it a 2.5 or 2.8? What's the interior look like? I'm a sucker for 84-86 XJs.

The seats and dash are great just no carpet. . Blinkers don't work eather. So why do you think it sells like gas? And it also idles really low

And thank you! I'm excited to join the jeep community. And I think the engine is a. 2.5 inline 4 but it doesn't drive like a 4 cylinder lol

I can see those ones! Not too bad! Have any pics of the ranger you traded for it?

Is it fuel injected? If so, it could be the fuel pressure regulator leaking. I'm not familiar with the 2.5s.
