No the lockrite won't work in the D35.They do make a 27 spline 8.25 .I know cuz my 96 has one from the factory.

you can always go get a 2000 xj 8.25 which has a 29 spine and it's very strong and direct swap.

First, welcome.

Second, yes. The older 8.25's were 27 spline. The newer ones have 29 spline.

Third, no. The lockrite will not fit in your 35.

If I was in your situation I would sell the 27 spline lockright and put it toward an Aussie for the 29 Spline 8.25 and be done with it. Also the 29 spline setup is stronger.

If you didnt want to go that route how much work is it to make the dakota setup bolt into a Cherokee? I'm not familiar with their setup. Spring over/under? Shock location? etc.

Yes, I do believe so. The axle shafts and the lock right will be 27 spline, I believe the carrier and the housing are the same.

In order to convert a 27 spline 8.25 to 29 spline, you have to swap out the carrier also, which means re-setting the backlash on the ring gear. The holes where the side gears live in the carrier are bigger in the 29 spline than in the 27 spline.

So will the 27 spline carrier fit in a 29 spline housing?
