97-01 XJ Turn Signal LEDs
97-01 XJ Only.
I hope I don't regret this, but here it goes.
These haven't worked perfectly for some reason. They don't flash correctly when the full set is installed. Reports are that they work fine if each side of the main front turn signals are run with one stock bulb and one led, rather than two leds. There are probably other, more-work, ways for them to work properly, but I'm not sure of any. I don't want to put any more effort into them, but I also don't want to throw them away. - COMPATIBILITY: Works (subject to the note above) with 4-pin trailer harness or no trailer harness only! Remove any factory or aftermarket seven-pin trailer harness or trailer brake controller or any lamp-circuit modifications or these LEDs will not work.
- REQUIRED and NOT INCLUDED: LED flasher relay. Recommended: Novita EP-27 (available online and in regular parts stores). I strongly recommend this relay over generic relays that are cheaper. Cheap relays are more likely to fail in cold or hot weather and generally don't last long.
- $6 shipped US; $17 shipped CA. (I'm asking for shipping plus a dollar (or two, Canada) to cover the transaction fee.)
- Troubleshooting / Installation (other than below, you're on your own unless you have a bad led... I tested these, so problems should be rare):
- Test the LED flasher relay by installing it first and verifying with stock bulbs. The Novita EP-27 relay is rated to handle stock bulbs, it's simply a time-based IC digital flasher rather than a heat-based analog flasher like the stock one.
- Make sure there is no seven-pin trailer harness or brake controller wiring installed.
- Pull the driver side cargo panel and make sure there is no seven-pin trailer harness or brake controller wiring installed.
- Rewiring the marker lamps directly to the main turn signal's return and 'dim' wires may (or may not) help with flashing issue.
- The main LEDs use Cree XB-D chips. Each of the six main leds cost me $6 - $7 and retail for $20 - $25. They're bright enough that running the 1x stock + 1x led in the front is fine. The LED overpowers the stock bulb. Also, they're not so bright that they'll blind anyone, but they are brighter than stock.
