Default 97-01 overhead console switch pod for OEM switches

I made a thing, again:

A little background, first. I am a hobbyist, like you guys. This project came about due to frustration at the $200 price tag on police package 4-switch bezels, if you could even find them. The original plan was to make a couple with a home 3D printer but it turns out the design is too complex for that. Then I got a lot of "shut up and take my money" comments, so I uploaded the designs to Shapeways and now anyone can buy one.

This panel is a drop-in replacement for the garage door opener spot in overhead consoles from 97-01 Jeep Cherokees. Might work for ZJs and pre-97 models, too, but I don't have access to either of those so I can't check. You will need to run wiring down the passenger side A-Pillar to get power from the switches to your accessories, but you should be able to get 12v+ and ground from wiring already present in the console. If you are using factory switches, you will also need a dimmer input. That may or may not be in the overhead console--I can't find it in the wiring diagram, but the computer display sure as heck dims when you turn the lights on so I dunno.

You can either use factory switches or aftermarket OEM-style TJ/XJ switches, except the Rubicon Axle Lock switch--they are significantly wider than other switches. eBay and Amazon have several listings for aftermarket switches.

The bad news is that on-demand manufacturing is expensive. I would suggest hitting up http://retailmenot.com and looking for a current coupon code for Shapeways. The discounts can be significant. There's also a discount if you use a .edu email address.

Now available for Contura/Carling/Daystar style switches, too.

I just installed an overhead console in my '00. I wish I needed a place for extra switches. That is cool and figure turn the useless, to me, garage door opener section into something useful.

Great idea for a switch panel. Is there a link for the Daystar switch option? I didn't see an option to select it in you link.

You're not the first one to ask that, so I've updated the post to remove the confusing sentence. The daystar one is $65 and the OEM style is $75.

Last year, Shapeways did a 25% off sale for Black Friday. They don't give me any kind of heads-up or anything so I can't say for sure, but I imagine they'll do something similar this year.

I got my Contura switch panel today. First thing’s first, outstanding job on the design, Wizard. The install was straight forward and fit perfectly. Contura V switches fit great. I wasn’t able get a good picture and I haven’t installed all of the switches yet. I can put some pics up later. I highly recommend the panel and again, good job wizard.

It's like you read my mind I cut into my remote control part of my roof console and "modified" in carling switches about 2 years ago. I thought the same thing what a waste of good space that can be used for something awesome.

Honestly I'm gonna get yours ASAP cause I like the angle & that it is going to be much more solid than mine.

3D printing is awesome for this sort of stuff plus makes it affordable for the end buyer...

I wish I would have seen this earlier not sure if you sale them on ebay but I bought the 6 OEM switch panel for my 2 door & the police package one for my 4 door about a month ago.

Matt

I get a LOT of complaints about the ebay/etsy ones. Those aren't mine, but boy do I hear about the problems they have.
