The Story:
The time has come for me to put my Cherokee up for sale. Reason for sale is I need something more fuel efficient with some creature comforts (and a warranty). It was purchased in September of 2011 locally in NJ. From January 2012 until now I daily drive it about 15 miles a day and it gets about 15.5 mpg. I believe it was originally a 4.0L/AX-15/231 unit but a 242 transfer case was swapped in previous to me owning it. What’s great about this combo is you get the 5-speed manual with the part-time 4WD of the 242. It’s a pretty good combo and not many people are running it.
I have all receipts from purchases and work completed on the Jeep. I also have an Excel doc that has dates, mileage, work performed, parts used, where parts where purchased, and where work was completed. This will be provided to the new owner.

My history with the Jeep:
I bought the Jeep on September 21, 2011 with a 3” AAL Kit installed plus 1.5” lift blocks and coil spacers. It had a humungous sub in the back, stinky interior, lots of dumb stuff like wires leading to nowhere, switches leading to nowhere, etc. Here are some highlights of work done to it:
  • September 22, 2011: Had to get rid of the funky smell inside. I took it to Buff Me Auto Detailing in Cherry Hill, NJ (where I take all my vehicles) and I had them clean the inside thoroughly. Success! No more smell.
  • September 27, 2011: The parking brake cable was broken when I got the Jeep, so I replaced it and adjusted it with a NAPA unit. Works now! I also couldn’t stand the mushy stock shifter so that was replaced with a Hurst short shifter. Shifts are short and precise now. Much better to drive.
  • September 29, 2011: Without a service history I felt it would be best to do a tune-up on the Jeep. Champion coppers, Mopar wires, NAPA cap and rotor were installed.
  • October 15-16, 2011: Removed the coil spring spacer and lift blocks because the ride was horrible (replaced the U-Bolts as well). This weekend I also decided to install Bushwacker Flat Flares, Hurculine the lower doors and cut fenders, and rotate the tires (as the rear were more worn than the front)
  • October 30, 2011: Put in a stock airbox as the Jeep came with a ricer cone filter. I also drained/filled the transmission with Red Line MT-90 synthetic. Shifted like butter after.
  • November 6-12, 2011: Finally got rid of the giant subwoofer/box and replaced it with a Sumthump.com stealth box and a 10” Shallow Pioneer Sub. I relocated the amp to under the rear bench seat to keep everything stealth. Also installed a V8 ZJ Tie Rod and new 3” Zone Nitro shocks.
  • November 20, 2011: Put in new front brake rotors and pads as well as a new front passenger hub assembly (bearing was on its way out).
  • November 26, 2011: Put in an adjustable track bar, new bushing, and got an alignment done
  • December 17, 2011: I wanted more sound from my speakers, so I ditched the stock door speakers in favor of some Infinity Kappa components and an amp (mounted under passenger seat). I also put in some 1.25” Ballistic Fab wheel spacers to fill out the flares and add some stability.
  • December 23, 2011: Installed a Detours Tailbone rear tire carrier.
  • January 29, 2012: Put in a new front u-Joint (Spicer) as the stock one was toast
  • March 10-14, 2012: The stock steering had a small leak and the steering box was sloppy. Replaced the box with a ’99 unit, put in the JCR spacer, along with a new reservoir, high/low pressure hoses, and new fluid.
  • July/August 2012: The clearcoat was faded and chipping in some areas, so I decided to bedline the upper portion of the Jeep. Prepped the paint, masked it off, sanded, etc. and it came out great!
  • August 8-11, 2012: Repaired leak between trans and transfer case, installed an new u-Joint on the rear driveshaft, inspected and resealed the rear diff, recharged the A/C, repaired driver’s rear upper shock mount
  • September 5-8, 2012: Wanted to go up to 4.5” so I put in new Zone shocks, full RE rear leaves, u-bolts, HD shackle relocation boxes, new stock shackles, new RE front springs, Zone front end links, and swaybar bushings.
  • October 9-November 19, 2012: The unthinkable happened. I somehow managed to break a piston skirt in my motor. I was driving down the road at 40mph and it went. I pulled over immediately and had it towed to the shop. At this point I put in a used ’96 motor with 130k on it in amazing condition. I decided to “freshen” it up with new:
    • Stainless exhaust manifold with flex primaries
    • Water pump/gasket
    • Thermostat/gasket
    • Champion plugs
    • Brown Dog rubber motor mounts and bolts
    • LUK Pro Gold clutch and LUK flywheel
    • Slave/master cylinders
    • Coolant hoses
    • Oil pan gasket
    • Rear main seal
    • Timing cover gasket
    • Intake manifold gasket
    • Oil pressure sending unit
    • Transmission mount
    • Valve cover gasket
    • Drive belts
  • Since the Jeep is coming up for an oil change, I will also do an oil change prior to sale.

The Good:
This Jeep is gonna last. Everything on this works (mechanically), there’s no rust, and I tried to put quality parts on it. It really performs well both on dirt and rocks and is great to drive. Most other Jeep people who ride in it can’t believe how well it drives on the road. It’s an all-around great rig and will probably survive just about anything you do to it. There is no SYE installed, however there are ZERO vibes/DW while driving it so I never felt the need to install one. I can do 80mph down the highway with ease in this.

I’m sure I have forgotten a thing or two, but that pretty much covers all the additions.

The Bad Stuff:

Carpet is worn and has a few stains
Driver’s seat is a little warn and has a tear on the side
Steering wheel cover is wearing a bit
Muffler/exhaust pipe may have a slight leak
A few dents on the body (from before I got it)
Rear wiper can be slow at times and doesn’t squirt washer fluid
Driver rear door armrest has a small piece broken
Front passenger armrest cover is coming off

Some of those don't seem that bad but I want to include everything so there are no surprises. I want you to be able to picture the Jeep without even seeing it as I don't want to waste your time or mine.

Thank you for looking and if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to ask me--I will do my best to answer them in a timely fashion, but I WILL answer them honestly. Some have driven in the Jeep and they can tell you, it drives very well. I changed the oil regularly (3000-3500 miles) and used a Purolator PureOne filter.

I have never seen a bumper like that, is it your creation or did you pick it up somewhere? Either way looks awesome!

It is a hybrid bumper. Logan's Metal Products bottom with bars from Dirtbound Offroad welded on (http://www.dirtboundoffroad.com/feat...nch-bumper-xj/). Dirtbound was great to work with and answered all questions I had. They sell the bars pre-bent, but you have to cut them down to whatever size you want.

Thanks!
