Zone vs Rusty's

I need help!
I can't decide: Zone Offroad Products 3 inch or Rusty's Off-Road Products 3 inch lift kit

http://zoneoffroad.com/product?ki=34&gr=-1

OR

http://www.rustysoffroad.com/jeep-su...-leaf-kit.html

good question, the only problem is that rustys has been around a lot longer and there aren't that many "tested" zone lifts... i will not comment on either just letting you know, what you "learn" here take with a grain of salt

freegdr 07-19-2012 08:45 PM

save up a few more bucks and get full packs for the rear the ride will be much better.

huntingman2706217 07-19-2012 08:54 PM

Dont like rusty so i vote anything but... Lol

Same.

freegdr 07-19-2012 09:20 PM

Just as long as you buy what you want is what matters...

Atmos 07-19-2012 09:20 PM

I'd get the zone kit. only reason being they have cooler shocks haha
but I wouldnt want either "lift kit" and there's plenty better ways to spend $290 but that's a different topic

thexjthatcould 07-19-2012 09:37 PM

Save a bit more cash and get a rubicon express, can't go with RE

wifin 07-19-2012 11:09 PM

Out of the 3 cheaper lift companies...(RC,Rusty's,and Zone)

I say.... Rough Country!!!

Excellent customer service, and you get the 10% discount from this forum
And the products are just way better built than they used to be.

Of course I feel like choosing between all of these you still get a cheaper lift. I haven't heard any really bad things about Rough Country recent products.

But each to their own.

NorCalJeep 07-19-2012 11:10 PM

Go with RC for a cheaper lift.

jeep4lf 07-20-2012 12:29 AM

Bought a rc and have had the usual; bushings shot in less than 3 moths , rear shock blew out, have 1 inch sag on drivers side. But sweet thing is every time I call them it gets fixed for free!!! Well parts are free. Rc has a rough time with product but best customer service ever.

But I have just begun doing work with rustys, they are a larger company and seems to me for what I've been around done a better job than rc for product but in the end you can't beat RC customer service...

That's what I say so you choose... Just don't go with aal they suck.

NorCalJeep 07-20-2012 12:31 AM

The only reason i said RC was because my family has used them for over 10 years, and we have been lucky. Not the best ride, but an okay kit.

Luck must be on your familys side.

opake 07-20-2012 07:40 AM

I'd go with Zone, they're an offshoot of BDS from what I've heard, and their parts never go out of stock. I don't have any of their parts on my rig, but have heard positive feedback from some JK and TJ guys running them.

Vincenza V 07-20-2012 08:19 AM

I have Zone. It rides really STIFF. I bounce all over the place. I regret it and wish i would have waited and went high end long arm (T&T Custom). Cheap is what you get.......

Atmos 07-20-2012 02:42 PM

OP have you heard of BDS suspension? Apparently they own zone. That'd be enough for me to choose them over rustys
https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f67/xj...68/#post980650
And that's not the only place I read it. Quick google search and found people saying that on a couple different forums as well

jbsjunk 07-20-2012 05:19 PM

Zone is a private label brand from BDS. I've done many of both in my job, I do lifts. My shop is one of the oldest BDS sellers. Never had a problem with Zone, the ride is good. I scored a 4 1/2" Zone leaf spring kit for $500 and will put it in once I can fit it in the schedule.

tiwvr1 07-20-2012 08:27 PM

Got zone shocks on my 4.5 inch lifted zj, best riding shocks for the buck I ever had.

George's Limited XJ 07-21-2012 01:45 PM

Zone! :icon_cheesygrin: Couldn't have been more happier with mine. They came out with full leaf packs now too for the higher lifts that look like quality

iyzak the xj 07-21-2012 11:42 PM

i have the rusty's 4.5" lift kit works like a charm i love it no problems however it came with my jeep lol so i can't say about the install

"1999 4-4-4 (4x4, 4.0, 4dr) Cherokee Sport-Black, 5"-(ish) Zone Lift, Goodyear 31's (Wranglers), Sahara Jeep wheels, RC adjustable track bar/swaybar discos/steering stab. AAL/Bastard pack hybrid in rear, Zone springs and 1.25" pucks front coils."

And you wonder why your ride is stiff.

Vincenza V 07-23-2012 07:41 AM

SK8RJD-I knoqw why the rear is stiff (duh) but what does the front "pucks" have to do with it? They are delrin. I am new to the lift scene, so i truely do not now. Do puck make the ride worse? If so how, I mean I have the factory rubber puck, touching the spring, AND THEN the delrin puck, followed by the unibody. I can't imagine delrin is a worse ride than the steel unibody?

Can someone please explain? Thanks.

huntingman2706217 07-23-2012 08:09 AM

If hes on oem arms ya... Long arms drop the back side of the control arms down... this means when hitting bumps or climbing a rock the angle of the arm is less therefor easier and smoother street ride... Cost more though... Having pucks isnt going to make your ride stiffer or not if u use the correct length control arms... If u keep the same arms then the axle will be pulled rear and the spring will ride now compressed more then what it did giving a more stiff ride... The bastard pack and AAL deal will probly ride stiff as heck aa mostbdo unless done properly which takes a lot of numbers and knowledge to get right... I really dont know where he was going with that statement because he has no idea what control arms hes running... Nor what components were used for the bastard pack...

XcherokeeJ 07-23-2012 08:26 AM

I was looking at getting the Rusty's 4.5" with the wheel/tire combo because the price was right. The more I researched and looked at other products, it was not the great deal I originally thought it was. But all research is for nothing because now I have a decision between lift kit or new motorcycle....:pinch:

NuclearCowboy 07-23-2012 10:37 AM

Anything but rustys. Unfortunetly I have rustys everything and can attest to themselves having **** service.....nice people but **** service.

AutobotXJ 07-23-2012 11:00 AM

I have a zone 3" aal lift and it actually rides better than stock. I actually want to get the new zone leaf springs but now they won't ship to Hawaii.

Waveform 07-23-2012 09:19 PM

Are there any members that sell zone?

I like zone...I have a 4.5 lift from them...yes in the vendor section

Ad-HocXJ 04-02-2016 02:24 PM

My Zone lift has treated me well. The ride isn't too harsh after it settles and it rides level.

The springs come with anti-slide pads, good u-bolts. Nothing to complain about.

However, don't believe them when they say that you won't have to do something about your shackles.
They claim that their springs are longer and shackle angle wont be crap. Guess what, mine was.
Disappointed there, but other than that, they flex and ride well.

Fred/N0AZZ 04-03-2016 09:52 AM

Don't but any AAL kit just a full leaf pack that said I will speak on my experience with Rustys over the last 4 years and 9 mo.

I pulled all my orders from him Including my original 3" lift which I'm still using on the current 4 1/2" lift on my XJ this morning from 2011 to date. They totaled $5887.73 in parts so far not a single one has given me any problems be it excessive ware, breakage, poor workmanship or parts not performing for the job they were purchased for.

For me the idea of buying parts made in NA and not China or elsewhere was a plus for sure as we have became a WalMart/Amazon buyers it seems for about all we buy and that applies to 4wd parts also. Rustys are made in NA all his parts.

JPXJMOAB 04-03-2016 10:30 AM

Being zone is made by BDS, I vote Zone. Great quality and good warranty. Once you see the shipping costs on RUSTYS you might run away.. A lot of people seem to. I won't put anything of his on my jeep.

Why do you comment when you know nothing about either product. As for items on your Jeep you usually buy something used not knowing what it is most of the time then they don't even fit you find out.

I comment on things I have bought some good some bad like when I bought syn. rope on a winch only to have and replace it after about a dozen uses or crappy KC Hi Lights that had problems.

I know your just a kid but I'm just old I guess and have bought a lot of car parts in my life starting when I was 14 now 67. I have saw one single photo of an old Rustys cheap track bar that had a problem, a bad weld. In fact a mod here linked it for me from a very old post and I thanked him for it the first one I had saw proof of in 4 yrs. of asking people for a single example. When you finally got them to be truthful 95% of them had never owned a single Rustys product only read some remark on the internet never a photo they had ever seen either.

This is the exact thing you are doing don't start your life that way it's not a good path to follow always try to get the facts for yourself. Research does pay off if your spending $2.50 or $250k this was important in buying race car parts or new KW Wreckers for my business.

Why don't you go sell **** for rusty? if anyone says anything bad about his product you post a mile long thread all butt hurt. Chill out. I do have experience with rusty so. I have 2 buddies who run it and say it runs like crap.. I have a right to my opinion too.
