Default Lift Question.... New Guy

Hello Everyone I'm new to the site so sorry if this is in the wrong place. I read where it should be but couldn't figure it out.
Just sold my FJ and bought a 96 XJ from a relative one owner bone stock.
I'm totally confused! I have got to lift this thing cause i'm tired of looking up at other cars. There seems to be way to many options for these things. I was thinking of a 4.5 lift but i'm not sure what all I have to buy besides the lift. I do not do rock crawling just off road camping and fishing in remote places. With a 4.5 lift i'm wondering if i have to do the long arms i hear about and do i need wheel spacers? Not sure yet on wheels and tires, i would like as big as possible but keep the factory flares. Is there a need for sway bar disconnects? I would like to keep it as simple as I can for financial reasons. I'm lost on these things!!! Any information would be greatly appreciated. Also I would like to keep the original fender flares if I can but would use something else if I have to. And do I need a adjustable track bar?

Most 4.5" lift kits will come with mostly everything you need. Some kits will have sway bar drop brackets and some will have longer sway bars, they will also come with new lower control arms and an adjustable track bar. One thing you may run into is rear driveline vibrations caused by the driveshaft angle after its lifted, a transfer case drop can help with vibrations but a slip yoke eliminator is the best option. Sway bar disconnects aren't necessary unless you want more flex. If you get new wheels with the right backspacing you shouldn't need wheel spacers but if you want to run wider tires on the factory wheels then wheel spacers are fine as long as they are a good quality spacer and INSTALLED PROPERLY . Zone Offroad makes a good 4.5 inch lift for a decent price Superlift, Procomp, Trailmaster, Rustys, Skyjacker and Rubicon express are also good. Stay away from Rough Country they are known for being low quality. Also go with a lift that comes with new leaf springs not just an add a leaf.

Unless your trying to rock crawl you can get longer sway bay links which are cheaper,Yes you need a adjustable track bar higher then 3 inches of lift and the best one for the money is https://www.ironrockoffroad.com/prod...k-bar-kit.html and what said about wheel spacers is right but also what good spacers cost you can buy a set of cragar soft 8 or d window rims that are steel and could even go wider or bigger if you want that.

Thanks for the replies, So using a Adjustable Track bar what I need to understand is after the installation do you have a front end shop adjust it? Otherwise how would you know where to set it at? And if a guy buys a slip yoke eliminator does that mean a new driveshaft? Sorry for all the questions but I can't afford to do things twice on this one. I need to get it right the first time out. And I wonder how the 31x10.50's look with the 4.5 lift?

Yes a sye will need a new rear driveshaft. The adjustable track bar you install get it close and let a shop do a alignment on it after the lift.A 4.5 inch lift and 31s http://www.myjeepxj.com/gallery/4.5inch/31/95
