zj gas tank skid swap into xj
Just info on this swap
Skid is 1/8th inch thick
Bolts on with 6 bolts shared by hitch if you have one
All you have to do is minor drilling for swap
15 minutes at the jy, pulling from 93-98 grand cherokee and $15 (with admission).
Just 1/16th less thick than "beefy" aftermarket skids.

Skid" for mine. 1/16" thicker makes for a lot more strength, better mounting, exact fit no mods required.

Also, it helps to know exactly what the skids looks like because they can be found already removed and laying around. Scored mine for $20 each, gas skid, TC skid and steering skid. All of them were laying on the ground in various locations at a Pick-N-pull.

I put one on my 01. To me it was a no brainier since I don't get in the rocks hardly at all, but will do fine when I do. While I was at it I took the front skid and put it on my Jeep too. Funny part is the donor vehicle was a 93, and everything came right off, no problem. My 01 is always a battle with all bolts rusted in place.

I put a ZJ skid on my 98 XJ & have bashed it on a few rocks pretty hard. Mine is scratched but not dented. Some weld a plate to the bottom for extra strength.

I put a zj skid on my 01 xj and beat the snot out of it on rocks and trees and it's been holding up for 3 years strong and I paid 13 bucks for it way better than spending over 200 for one. .
