Default ZJ fan clutch in XJ? (NAPA #272310)

Is this a common upgrade you folks do? I've been doing some reading about it and I've seen some folks say you should run Brown Dog or Iron Man 4x4 motor mounts with it? I have this NAPA ZJ clutch. I bought it new. I am trying to figure out if I install it will I be making a mistake. A friend of mine told me it would be fine and it seems like quite a few folks do it, but maybe everyone who does it has upgraded motor mounts?

What do you folks think? Y'all are way more experienced at this than I am.

Thanks again!

I've read it doesn't do anything different than the stock XJ. A new clutch fan regardless will help the cooling system.

You have to be careful getting the ZJ clutch because there is two different ones for the 4.0 ZJ, the standard one and the HD or high capacity cooling package one. The standard one is what you want, and it is also the same part # for the 4 cly XJ fan clutch. Many people get the ZJ clutch and it won't fit well because it is the HD one, get one for a 4cly XJ to make sure it is the correct one. I have one on mine, it pulls way more air than the factory one did. Here is a couple pictures comparing my stock one to one for the 4cyl XJ.

I'm happy with the napa HD fan clutch for the XJ. On the topic of motor mounts I will never buy the stock design again as it is pointless.

https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/TEM272310 is the one I got. It looks extremely similar to the one you posted, but I've never changed it before.

You mean the standard one is the same part # I listed? I basically read a thread on another forum where a couple guys swore by 272310 from NAPA. Or are you saying there are TWO DIFFERENT clutches with the same exact part #? Seems like that would defeat the purpose of part #s. If I have the wrong one I can just exchange it for the right one. I want to try to figure that out before I start tinkering that way I can easily exchange it.

That is the correct one, the 2724310 is the part # for the 4 cyl XJ fan clutch, and it is also for the 4.0 ZJ without the HD cooling package. I was just saying to avoid getting the wrong one look it up under a 4 cyl XJ instead of a 4.0 ZJ. Last time I checked Napa's website they didn't even list the 2724310 for a 4.0 ZJ they only listed the HD fan clutches.

Oh, I see. Thanks for the clarification. Probably going to install this fan clutch, Flow Kooler, and new hose tomorrow morning now. I'm stoked.

I just Googled "NAPA 272310" after calling the local one's and them all telling me they would have to order it.

Is it 2724310 or 272310 you googled?

Glad you caught that. Just a typo. I fixed it. It was supposed to be NAPA #272310.

For what it's worth I have ran the Hayden 4 cyl XJ fan clutch in the past. Be prepared for a lot more noise haha. I mean the XJ isn't a quiet vehicle by any means but these clutches were built for Jeeps that don't have the auxiliary cooling fan the 4.0 XJs have so they have quite a bit more engagement than the standard one. I had a standard clutch and the 4cyl clutch and swapped them out based on season. I put the standard one in for winter time and the 4cyl one for summer/desert use. They don't take long to change out.

I'm not worried too much about the noise. It gets very hot here so the peace of mind is worth way more to me. Are there fans that go on the clutch that move more air? I was looking at the design earlier and seems like it could definitely be improved.

You'll see a decrease in gas mileage as well. I'm not sure on a modified belt driven fan for more air flow. What year is your Jeep? If you have an earlier model you can swap in an E-fan from a 97+ model they redesigned the e-fan and it puts out more CFM.
