ZJ backing plate
Gathering parts for rear disc conversion, if the backing plate on the zj is bent some from where the jy sat it down w/o wheels, can this be hammered back out. Also, is 100-150 a decent price for used discs, backing plates, calipers, rotors (will most likely buy new anyway and pads) hardware, and brake lines? Also have to buy the proportioning valve too, what should I expect to give for it used? Lastly, anyone done this and have feedback?
Thanks,

Anyone have an answer about having to straighten the backing plates? I'm looking at doing a conversion soon, but all the ZJs at the JY are without wheels and are bent to some degree. They want $20ea for the backing plates, $5ea for calipers, so this looks like a cheaper deal than trying to rebuild my drums.

What part of the backing plate is bent? If its the part that is sheet metal thats a dust shield theyre not needed if its the actual backing plate it self then find a straight one and i did my rear disc conversion 100 for jy the rotors and pads were brand spanking new but one caliper was seized but it is worth the time and effort doing the swap my 35s stop on a dime

Thanks, it's the sheet metal. I removed one of them today, but can't get the rotor on the left side to budge at all. I'm going back Thursday with larger pry bars to see if it'll budge.
In reference to the link in your signature, the JY i'm going to has a RH drive XJ that I'd love to restore, just not enough time, money, or space.

Backing plates are just sheet metal....should not be a problem.
Just did mine and i didn't use the proportional valve and i see a significant changes.

IIRC the backing plate serves as a "mount" for the parking brake. ie the shoes are retained by pins and clips that pull the them against the backing plate and the shoes rest against sections of the backing plate that have been raised up. If the plate is too mangled the shoes may not line up properly with the drum surface inside the rotor hat.
if you're going to try to straighten the shields, you will want to check for interference with the rotor (obviously) but also check to make sure the parking brake doesn't drag due to mis-aligned shoes.
