Default ZJ 136amp alt. in a renix wiring question?

Ok so im in the middle of this swap, got it all mounted up with the HO brackets. Then on to the wiring the alternator. I Just want to make sure I have this correct? Heres is where I got most of my info thus far: http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthrea...ternal+regulat

The one thing I haven't been able to find for certain is, what year exactly "old ford" are we talking... I found this for a 1975 F150. It looks the same as the one on naxja, but if you look at the notes it only goes up to 90amps. WTF www.autozone.com part #:VR730

Lets do this to make it simple;

Name: ZJ 3.JPG
Views: 4582
Size: 19.3 KB

Does that look right? I dont care to fry all my electrical! Any info would be great, as well as links you guys might know of?

Also adding a wiring diagram for those of you that can read it.

96 xj chargin wiring diagram

89 Renix **** lol

I asked AutoZone for a regulator out of an 80s Ford pickup. They gave me a funny look, and I said as long as it has the terminals I A S F.

Side note: I purchased an 85 F250 after doing this mod, and it has the same regulator. So, if you wanted to say its for an 85 F250 w/ a 6.9D it should work(double check the regulator for I A S F before you leave the store).

Also, not for sure, but I do think that I blew my regulator at one point. My battery would get very hot and sizzle. Replaced the battery(under warrenty) and the regutator and no problems since. I am electrical dumb and learned how to wire it from:

Take some pics at Moab for this Indiana dude! Good luck!

I saw in your build that you are trying to remove a pulley. The serp belt will ride on the back of the ZJ alt pulley with no issues. There will be one groove in the ZJ pulley visible towards front of your Jeep I have had mine in for a year or so now and no belt or pulley issues.

Thanks!!!!!

I was trying to swap the pulley, so that the 136amp alt. had the smaller 90amp pulley. Only because I want the alt to put out more volts at a lower rpm for rock crawling/idling back down the trail in the dark... (think 10 speed bike.) It didn't work though, because the old alt. pulley wouldn't come off, being as it was rusted on!

Well its done! With the highbeams, 1100 watt fog lights, (4) 55 watt rock lights, heater, cooling fan, dash lights, dome light, & radio BLASTING.... 14.56 volts to the battery!!! Ya I'm a happy man! The '96 HO brackets on my '89 renix for some reason I didn't need to grind the bracket or the timing cover. Also the belt needs to be a '91!

I will be making a complete wright-up on it in the next few days. I'll post a link in this thread for Google users.

Hold on don't poor the champaign just yet... sigh

Just pulled the jeep out of the garage & the volt gauge raised with the rpm to about 18v, so I hook up the voltmeter, & sure enough its following the rpm up to between 17-19v! Guess its back to the drawing board.

Regulator issue? Sounds like it's not receiving a signal that the battery does not need more juice.
