A to Z fabrication tire carrier spindle
i have recently made a custom rear bumper for my xj and i am planning on building a tire carrier onto it to carry my 33 inch spare, my problem is that i built the bumper close to the body as seen in this picture.
how could i mount a tire carrier spindle onto the face of the bumper and still have the strength to carry a 33 on it

my plan in my head right now is to extend out on the passenger side about 1.5 to 2 inches to run the spindle through and extend the other side for the latch. would it be possible to to that?

I built a pretty high clearance bumper and added a tire carrier. Used 7/8" heims mounted to both my 1/4 panel guard and bumper. Would hold a 37 inch tire without any movement or rattling.

No, I don't lick fish.
How about a tab made of the same thickness steel as your bumper welded towards the top of the bumper with gussetting underneath it that you can mount the spindle to? Then you can mount the same kind of tab with gussets on the other side for your latch...
