Thumbs up To you guys that have re geared...inside here for a second please

Did you guys do this in your garage , or have a shop do it? I RARELY shy away from projects, but I didn't do the best lashing job on my old fox body mustang's rear so I am a bit hesitant to do it on both of my diffs with this jeep.

I can see a shop having not only the expertise, but the lift to be able to know it out efficiently. Although I had no problem installing my Aussie in the rear, being 6'4 I was a bit cramped down there.

Also what did you guys spend apx who had it done at a shop. I have my 4.56 gears all planned out, just wondering how to go about installing.

It's about $300 where I live to have gears set up. I've done gears in a couple 8.8's and one 9". They were ok at best and I still needed to have someone re-do them for me. Setting up gears is something that imo is worth paying someone to do. Oh and btw, do you really have a mystic cobra?

I have done a few gear jobs. I dread every second of it, but Its worth the saved money. Almost always I put the rearend on a stand i made or a pair of jackstands to do the work inside and at a nice level without a jeep on top of me.

i paid about 600 to have my diffs and gears swapped, new bearings and seals for the rear axle were installer supplied. i supplied all other parts, right down to the gasket sealer and oil, all done in the truck. i can and have done gears, but its nice to have the axles out or have a hoist.
