XJ rear bumper/tire carrier
 

Has anyone used the EAG rear bumper tire carrier? Looking for reviews. I have the front bumper and like it but dont need a 35" tire flying off if you know what I mean.

I don't trust any armor EAG comes out with.

Yeah I'd stay away too.

If you really want a bumper like that save your money for a while and buy the JCR.
I have the $hittybilt, and I am so not happy with it either.

Buy American!

EAG Rear Bump and Tire Carrier 98 Jeep XJ
 

Had grandson's 98 Jeep XJ lifted to accommodate some 33x12.50s. Had a suspension shop perform the lift, then sent it to a local body shop to do a full paint job, change out bumpers, rubber, and upgrade of all lights and such. The body shop purchased all the aftermarket parts including EAG front and rear bumpers. First thing noticed was how noisy the rear bumper is. Rattles like crazy going down the road and sounds like it is going to fall off with every bump. We are going to pull it off to make sure it was installed correctly before exploring other options. Assuming it was actually installed correctly, it could be that the 33" spare is just too much weight for the bumper to handle, or the XJ just does not have enough metal to support such a heavy bumper, or the bumper needs to be sold with additional supports that extend into the unibody ports (box tubes) like the receiver hitch had been attached to. Plan on pulling the entire assembly off soon to investigate before it damages anything.

Once we get the bumper off and evaluate how it is supported, that may be an option to beef up the attachment points.
All in all, they look like well made bumpers for the price. Solid steel with a good textured coating. Welds look good. Fully adjustable to fit different tire sizes. Had to customize a little to allow the license plate to be seen, by drilling and tapping three 1/4-20 holes to mount a license plate bracket. That worked out really well.

I have attached a couple pictures of the how it looks on the XJ.

JCR Offroad stuff is amazing. Picked up their rear quarter panel armor with light boxes before they discontinued it last year and it's one of the best built pieces I've ever bought for any jeep. Their back bumper is on my list, along with tons of other goodies.

The EAG bumper will be fine as long as you don't plan on using it for anything. I wouldn't tow with it, winch with it, use a floor jack to jack up the Jeep, those sorts of things.

From researching EAG products, they are built with thinner metal. Like I said, not a problem to just bolt on and look at as long as you don't plan on using them for work.
