XJ lower control arm shim...
Well I am in the process of fabbing a mid arm setup... while I had the stock lowers off I decided to measure the slotted bolt hole on the XJ's lower control arm frame mount... turns out that the XJ can take a shim that is a little thicker that 1/2" what does this mean for cheapskate XJ owners?
it means that you COULD shim stock arms for use at up to 4.5" while maintaining proper lower control arm length... well sorta
I would not really want to do this... but it is good to know that this is an option should the need arise

using a thicker shim to push the control arm forward would center the wheel back in the wheel well but you will still have awful control arm angles. it will also make your pinion angle worse.

well actually you are right about the control arm angle... but that will always suck with short arms and more than a 2" lift... just the mature of the beast
as for pinion angle if you shim the lowers it will actually correct the pinion angle it an extent

but that part does not really matter... I am not using it... just passing along the info... most people think you can only slide them forward around .25"
