XJ!! How high can i go on a short arm kit i already have?
my question is i have a 4.5 RE short arm kit now on my XJ and wanting to know how much of a coil spacer can i run in the front before it messes with anything and what will it effect? i am installing a winch and bumper next week and want to level it back out once it settles. also i have 3.5 rear leafs and 1" shackles. what can i do to go up another 1" in the rear if needed? thanks for the advice

well if it goes down an inch and you use 1" spacers youll just be where you are now.
Without drop brackets i wouldnt go past 4.5". sure you can do it, but the ride sucks, and you basically use all of your down travel in the lift.

it's not that the arms are cheap... it's that you would sell your old stuff...
you should be able to sell your control arms for $200-$300 for the set...
purchasing a set of drop brackets is about $250
using those figures, if you just purchase drop brackets you are out $250
if you DO NOT purchase drop brackets and sell your control arms for $200-$300 you have that money to go toward a long arms setup...
now add the money you where going to spend on drop brackets to the money you got selling you short arms
now you have $450-$550... you could easily buy a used set for that price...
or if you 'NEED' a new set then you will need to spend a little extra cash... I would look at these manufactures
also for cheap you are going to most likley get stuck with a radius arm setup... and don't talk crap on radius arms... that are not perfect but they beat the pants off of OEM XJ arms...
Rough Country Radius Arm $650 http://www.roughcountry.com/jeep_xj_689U.html
Iron Rock Offroad XJ Radius Arm $600 (add $100 for adjustable length)
http://www.ironrockoffroad.com/Merch...egory_Code=XLK
a little more money gets you this
Rock Krawler 3 link $800 http://www.rockkrawler.com/?r_intro=1
another kit to look at is Froehlich Suspension... Kris owns the place and last time I talked with him he had a couple extra 4 link long arm setups that where one of his older models... he told me he would be willing to cut anyone a really nice deal on them... basically letting them go for a little over cost...
