Default xj fuel injector upgrade problem

Ok I have a 96 xj and I tryed putting in the 710 and the 700. They are out of a ford 5.0 and a 4.6. When I installed I disconected my battery to reset the CPU and I started it up. It sounded like pure hell. It sounded like it was missing horriblely and I tryed it with both type of injectors. And the same problem. My 4.0 doesn't have a fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail. So any ideas??? Well help please. I also seen on the injectors that there are letters A to E does that mean anything?

Are you sure you got the correct injectors? Search and find the lists, several threads have been posted with plenty of information on which ones to get.

Also, did you "reset" the ECU? There is an actual procedure involving the ignition and headlights that has been suggested many times, if you haven't tried it you may want to. Its free, and won't hurt anything if it doesn't work.

By the way, your fuel pressure regulator is right there at the pump/sending unit assembly on the top of the gas tank.

You need to use the 710 injectors. Check my signature for the injector swap thread and follow the steps, including resetting your ECU. The rough running could be caused by a few things, but my top 2 guesses would be:
1. The injectors aren't seated properly
2. They haven't been properly cleaned and tested

If you didn't clean them correctly, you may be getting some crud blocking them, or they're not functioning correctly. PM me if you want to know how to thoroughly clean and test them.

Well let's see..The Ford "yellow stick" 700's and 710's are basically the same injector except one is yellow and the other is yellow/orange. (OK, I know they arent exactly the same, but 204cc/min vs 210cc/min is the same in my book) Either should work fine in a 96 XJ with no mods needed so that can't be the cause of your troubles. They are designed to operate at the same PSI as your stock 96 runs at so no need to worry about that. I'd try resetting the CPU as suggested as the easiest thing to try first.

(By the way I have a bunch of nicely cleaned and tested 710's if anyone is interest cheap as they havent moved very well and I just want to get rid of them. Send me a PM)

X2 on this..I have found I sometimes mix the rear 2 up as they both have long wires and tend to move around when you pull them out of the way and want to cross laying there.
