I just looked up the part numbers and they are different. As well, the collapsed center-to-center lengths appear to be different, with the Grand Cherokee being longer by a couple inches or more depending on the year.

So on that front, I don't think so.

This is the reference material I used: http://www.lunghd.com/Downloads_and_...na_J321_CV.pdf

You can have a ZJ front shaft shortened at a driveline
shop and it will work on an XJ.

So my question is at what point should you get a longer front driveshaft when lifting your xj. I'm plannig on lifting my xj to an 8in. lift and I don't know if I need to get a longer fort driveshaft

your joking right? Lol....1. Why on earth are you going to 8 inches? You know how expensive that will be to get right? 2. If your asking if you need a new driveshaft, your not ready to lift 3 inches let alone 8.

sorry man

Lift and measure.
Too many variables to tell you what you'll need.

I have a 4.0 with ax-15 np231 with sye lifted 8" measuring axle to frame.

d30 hp
front driveshaft is a stock auto 4.0 shaft that is 1.5" longer

ford 8.8
rear driveshaft is 33" collapsed from 1980 chev half ton.

When I got my XJ is was sitting @ 8 in the front & 10 in the back on bald 38s. It looked cool but way to top HEAVY. The stock front shaft had about a inch of spline left. That was just one more reason to lower it down.

Expensive and very time consuming,
No taking the jeeps to the mechanic here. It's all DIY except Safety certs and Tire Mounting.

Maybe he goes mudding in the swamps where there is deep water, not everyone rock crawls, or whatever you people do out West. He is asking about needing a longer front driveshaft, which doesn't seem to be discussed a whole lot, and honestly I am not sure if an 8" lift requires a longer front driveshaft or not. I know the front driveshaft works fine with a 6" lift.

doesnt matter what he does with it. If a lift that high isn't done at least somewhat adequate, **** will screw up fast.

That's true, this guy has a lot of good videos on building a XJ with a tall lift.

yeah see all i was saying was with what it takes to do a kift that high because compents and geometry need to be correct or parts start going out and you make a mess out of yout new toy in a few trips. If your asking about driveshafts at a lift that high, yoi probably dont no exactky what your getting into and you better start doing some homework haha.

i see guys that get older vehicles or jeeps and just want to bolt up a tall lift. I explain its not that easy and they say "well my newer truck simple"....yeah, no its not that easy hahah
