Default XJ Daily Driver looks for new suspension idea

So i love the capability of my daily driver.

what i am looking for is to get a Old Man Emu 1.5" medium duty lift for a better overall ride and i want to get a set of rear and front bumpers.

I want my rig however to be as efficent and speedy as i can.

I realize i wont have the ride and i'll take a hit on efficency with the front and rear the rear would be worth it for me for getting the tire out of the cargo area, dual jerry can carrier (one of which ill use for tools and regular liquid storage) & rear end protection/weight.

The front? i could go either way and Nate's 4x4 has a sharp looking one that i would like to add a set of driving lights & have the front end protected.

i'm averaging over 20 mpg, trying to watch my XJs weight and doing odds and ends on the engine.

If i'm gonna tank to 12 MPG then i'll forget the bumpers and lift then go super light instead

What I would do and I plan on doing myself is factory oem replacement upcountry leafs and springs gives you the factory 1in lift and is proven by the factory and is ment for the xj and I would also replace your shocks they also make a bolt on oem rear tire carrier as well

It's all preference really...

After months of dragging it out I've ultimately decided on this route. Rooster can you give me specific parts I should look for? I'm gonna go for an OEM setup for the suspension but I'm sure there are some better ways I should go about it that you could suggest

I've considered going with Quadratec's HD springs, leaves, and shocks..... but once you start getting into that money you could honestly pay a little more and buy a decent 3" lift...... so I suppose you could say I'm on the fence where to go...

The Dorman brand rear springs are good for at least 1 inch of extra height will a bunch of tools in the rear. This is over 1 year now. By the time you buy all the parts separately you could have gotten an OME matched setup. Some say the V8 grand or upcountry will give an extra lift but I bought them NEW and they are no taller than the stock springs. 4 Bilsteins are around 240 delivered from Summit.
So give it some thought about a complete package kit.

did you actually put them on your rig? the upcountry WILL give you an inch, or they wouldn't have sold that option at the dealer..
mine had the upcountry package and it did sit an inch taller over stock cherokees, when I did the swap of the upcountry to v8 zj coils, I gained .5". you have a high chance that any zj(from a V8 model) coils you get will give you at the least a inch to 1.5", way cheaper than brand new coils.

There's tons of brands that make full suspension kits, long arms (or short arms) coils, leafs, shocks, track bar, pitman arm, and all hardware and what not
Rough country, rubicon express, rock krawler, iron rock offroad, Clayton, TnT fabrication, bds, fst

What's the difference between long arm and short. And yea there is so many kits it just seams like some ofer this but not that. I am more than likely going to call quadratic and ask them, they are hust so expensive.

I am a Jeeper Noob and new to the forum but have burnt my eyes from my skull reading about this for the past 2 weeks.

I have to do the same thing to mine. Now that it isn't leaking oil it is time to fix the suspension. When I priced out the upcountry OEM stuff it was not much cheaper than using OME HD 2" Leafs and OME HD Springs from Quadratec.

I am still trying to figure out the right monroe shocks for the 1.75 - 2" lift. I can find the Monroe 37029 but can not find the 37193 and have read that it is not really long enough for a 2" lift.

It will be great to see how you go.

i'm gonna just go with Old Man Emu. they're not that much more than trying to roll all oem, guarantees a quick bolt in and from the shop i talked to in Denver; all i'd really need was the coils, shocks and leafs. simple enough install and the control arms, swaybar disconnect and whatever else can come later. Though i am tempted to hold off and just go for the DPG kit. DPG offroad has what i can tell in the most comprehensive kits i've seen and i've done quite a bit of studying.

For tire carriers go with Nate's Off road but only if you're sure you're ready for front and rear. its a hell of a deal and the shipping is icing, very heavy icing

I have decided for the DD to stay mostly stock. I went to quadratec and ordered UCA, LCA , HD springs and coils and some new rubber bushings. I will start a build thread for the progress.

I can not thank you guys enough for all the info on this forum.

Good move. You won't regret staying low and the price of stock/nearly stock tires is so much cheaper. I recommend the ARB front bumper. It looks great on a mostly stock XJ and doesn't stick out too much.
