Xj conversation 2 wheel to 4 wheel
I just got my son a 94 xj it's in good shape but was wandering if it's possible to make a 2 wheel drive into a 4 wheel drive buy adding the parts needed. Thanks

Yup. It's possible. You will need deep pockets tho. Usual conversions run 2-3K.
Its usually waay cheaper to sell the 2WD and purchase a clean 4x4 model. The only way to make it affordable it to have a complete donor vehicle of the same year that you can pick all the parts off of. |
With used parts it shouldn't cost all that much. Around here you can buy a complete running Cherokee for $500. My understanding its just a bolt on affair for the most part. You just switch over the parts you need.

Correct. Its 100% bolt on. The trans tunnel even has the knock out for the t case shifter.
|
Thanks everyone for the help, I will weigh my options.
|
You need the trans the t case and shifter linkage. You need both axles both driveshafts and a lot of small things. It is cheaper and easier to just buy a 4x4 xj tho.
|
Not in all cases. It may be less work but not necessarily cheaper. You don't need the rear axle. Find a front that has the same gear ratio as the rear.
|
Unless it's something like a '97, its easy and not that expensive.
Around here, it can be done for a few hundred bucks and a few hours of labor. Front Axle - $100 Trans - $100 T-case - $100 Other Misc items - $100 or less. It's been done plenty of times, and isn't that bad. |
